Welcome to the stage GS. I'm not from your area but we have some on here that are. Good luck and hope you get the info that helps you catch some. Be sure and post pics when you catchem.
It kind of depends on what you want to fish for and how you want to fish. There are salmon that come into the Clackamas as well as steelhead. There is also trout fishing. It makes a difference whether you are going to bank fish or use a boat.
Salmon and steelhead bank fishing is what I've got gear for
OK The easiest access is near the mouth. There are some good spots, mostly on the north bank. Everything is too high right now. There should be steelhead moving, Salmon will star in March. There is also good access on the Willamette from Meldrum Bar Park.
I'm used to fish that but can't recall where it is. And Bonnie lure and such. The was many years ago. Where are they?! I was always the passenger. I also heard that the eagle Creek salmon run were getting moved to another river? Is that true?
Eagle creek start with Eagle creek park easy parking easy access to the creek just outside Estacada was my home stream years ago , you will see lots of pull out where you can the Clackamas on the way too you can also go through Estacada and fish Promatory res. and the river above it also if you willing to drive take hwy 26 to the salmon river turn of is just before Zigag there is a camp ground there you can fish in also the Salmon river comes right up next the road at one point I caught lots of fish there that should get you started close to home for salmon steel head and trout for warm water fish the Willimette is great
The salmon river is catch and release for trout and steelhead. Salmon are protected, you are not allowed to fish for salmon. Move down to the Sandy river if you want to keep anything.
Awesome! Thanks! Is there anywhere that posts the fish counts or reports? I'm not even sure when the runs are anymore
Faraday Lake Used to be a good one back in the day. Easy trout fishing. And here is a tip for summer steelys. If you hike a little further down then go over onto the Clackamas right there. Use a bobber. If they are in, you can see them from the trail above.
I'm not sure of what the run is like in there, these days.
Do you know when Faraday Lake will open again?
It will be mid May. I think the 3rd weekend.
Thank you for the info. Do you have any suggestions for a spot. Not asking for your favorite hole, lol, I just have no idea where to even begin to start.
you could also fish the Clackamas in Gladstone from High rocks to the mouth there used to be lots of places you could fish it was easy to park & walk the riverbank.I caught my first steelhead & jack salmon in that stretch of river
Perfect! Going to give it a shot tomorrow. I fished Bonnie lure all week and not a thing. I drove to the hatchery and It seemed closed. Guess they aren't up that far yet. I'll share a picture because I'm catching one 🤣🤣😁😏
