I don't spend alot on rods but I buy good+ quality reels. I got my first in the mid 80s. I had to throw it out last summer because glass was breaking down and getting those glass cuts. I presently have 7 different sticks for different reasons. Bottom line. You can't beat them. I fish alot I take care of my stuff. Dollar 4 dollar above average rod.

Ugly Stix's........Durable, affordable, sold everywhere. I have several, both open water and ice. Marry them up with a Pflueger reel, and you have a good affordable combo.

Probably have 25 ugly sticks. Everything else is junk and won’t hold up in the long run. I use ultralights mostly because I hate fishing with a stump puller 😂.

Absolutely my entire saltwater collection consists of 8 intercoastal uglies with cork grips. No problem with stripers in 30lb class. The rods are bullet proof

My Ugly Stick 6’ 6” ultralight floated when I flipped my boat. I had a very light reel on it.

I have 4,2 long poles,2 ice poles.
A ice pole broke(snaped)on a 12# northern, saved the fish before it got back down the hole. Took it back to Scheels they swapped no questions asked. My 7' pole is 30 years old & still catching fish.

I just remembered that I have another Ugly Stick - a little rod I built myself on a Shakespeare blank many years ago. I recently replaced the guides and windings and patched its Tennessee handle. It’s 5 feet long, very limber, and going strong with a 500 size Shimano Sahara on it.

Glad there are so many that agree with me. I fish with guys that have to have very expensive gear. I have even had a guy tell me I'd catch more fish if I used their signature series rod. Give me a break. I don't need to catch more. Im looking for a trophy

I agree, I don't fish for meat, I fish for the trophy. It's what keeps me going. I do keep fish for dinner though.

You can catch fish with a cane pole or a handline and this is why the rod is the least important piece of tackle.

Always said, all you really need is line, hook and bait
I bought a Tenkara , basically it's a poke, line and a fly
