Glad they did well and made it back safe. 3” is not enough life for me.
I went out for a little bit today and caught nada. Had a solid 4&1/2-5&1/2 inches.

Beautiful first ice gills!

I had the same results on the same ice thickness Saturday, J. 6 hours in 4-degree weather. No wind, so it wasn't too bad. Great to be out and get the stink blown off!

Around here 3” is good for walking, carrying spud bar and ice picks. I went through when I was a teenager. You never forget that

Those are nice eating gills. I did sillier things when I was young. I admire them and almost wish I was young again.

Nice day!
Curious—how thick does the ice have to be to drive on?

Depends on what you're drivin.
6 inches to be save. Some go out with 4 or 5 but I wouldn't want to.
Also depends on how many cars are parked together.

Thanks Fred and Saw.
Fred—hard to believe there was ice thick enough to drive on in Connecticut 80 years ago.

Looks like Wallace Lake! Fished off that wooden structure one day when the ice was too thin to walk out. Casted out to previous drilled holes and caught fish! Dragged them across the ice. Four inches of ice there and you’ll see 50 guys instead of 2.

There's plenty at Bantam and points north, now. The state only allows snowmobiles and ATVs now Mark.

My picture was Wallace. 4@1/2-5&1/2” and there where 12 guys when I got there. Brad’s pics are someplace in PA.
