Thanks Fred, I know these crabbing posts are going to be a bit repetitive but each trip is truly different, except the results 🤪🦀🦀🦀

I enjoy your posts. Keep them coming.

Great job a limit an hour is really good. You let them soak for only 12 min or so? That’s quick.b

The 12 minutes Denny mentioned was the time it took us to lay the 1st line of seven (probably could have gotten it done sooner if I wasn't the greenhorn-of-the-day).

We left them to soak around 45 minutes.

Second trip of the season and seas were forecasted at 3’ swells and 2’ wind waves, clear skies and warm. Forecast didn’t disappoint, sort of (see video). Papa D (Doug), I and Karel met up at 6:00 am so we could crab just as the tide was changing. Motored out in clear and calm weather, then we got to the point and the 3’ swells were closer to 8’, slowed down and rode the roller coaster pass the bar. When we got to the honey hole the seas matched the forecast except the chop was only 1’ or less, thank you, thank you…… Had our first string of seven loop/hoop pots set by 8:08 am (12 minute set time!), then we saw a seal surface right next to our buoys, uh oh……. Waited a few minutes and decided to pull our first pot in the string, if the seal raped it, we’d pull them all and move. First pot was fine and no more sign of the seal, sat back for 40 minutes and started pulling. As we pulled we noticed the middle of the string was producing better, so we reset the beginning of the string and the end of the string parallel to the middle and out. After 3 pulls and 3 hours we had our limits and plus, culled the just barelys and head back to the marina at 11:15 am. By 1:00 pm boat was put up, crab cleaned and we were headed home. Another great trip!

Thanks Animal! What Papa D said, 12 minutes to set the string, 45 minute soak. We reset the non producing pots to an area near the producing ones. Sometimes it’s only a matter of 40 yards that makes a difference.
