Second trip of the season and seas were forecasted at 3’ swells and 2’ wind waves, clear skies and warm. Forecast didn’t disappoint, sort of (see video). Papa D (Doug), I and Karel met up at 6:00 am so we could crab just as the tide was changing. Motored out in clear and calm weather, then we got to the point and the 3’ swells were closer to 8’, slowed down and rode the roller coaster pass the bar. When we got to the honey hole the seas matched the forecast except the chop was only 1’ or less, thank you, thank you…… Had our first string of seven loop/hoop pots set by 8:08 am (12 minute set time!), then we saw a seal surface right next to our buoys, uh oh……. Waited a few minutes and decided to pull our first pot in the string, if the seal raped it, we’d pull them all and move. First pot was fine and no more sign of the seal, sat back for 40 minutes and started pulling. As we pulled we noticed the middle of the string was producing better, so we reset the beginning of the string and the end of the string parallel to the middle and out. After 3 pulls and 3 hours we had our limits and plus, culled the just barelys and head back to the marina at 11:15 am. By 1:00 pm boat was put up, crab cleaned and we were headed home. Another great trip!

Papa D (Doug) and the better than forecasted conditions
Doug and a couple of biguns!
We had quite a few of this size!
Another Daddy!
Cooler full
On the way in, I’m smiling because we hadn’t hit “the bar” yet…………
It was definitely a great trip!
It was chilly in the morning but warmed up nicely -- stripped down to t-shirts by the end of the 1st pull.
Thanks again Denny!

Good job! i'm Tom, wife and I run between Lawson's and Ft Bragg. Road-tripping as we can. Got our favorite cheap inns and best food and stops. Beach fishing as accessible. Russian Gulch is very cool. Noyo and Bodega jettys are treacherous, you know that. Gotta see 'em anyway. We love the Sonoma/ Mendocino coast.

Awesome catching Denny! Glad to see the 3 of you got your limits and even got to cull to keep some jumbos. Thanks for sharing.
That is tough to beat. I can't wait until we get a break in the wind and heavy rain here on Puget Sound.

Thanks Fred, I know these crabbing posts are going to be a bit repetitive but each trip is truly different, except the results 🤪🦀🦀🦀
