Still above water, Rich, took me out on the Petaluma today.
Was a beautiful day and we caught 5 fish. Two drinks and two 20+ inchers.
We kept the 20s and then we get a hit that pops the rod holder out and the rod points straight behind the boat. Line was just screamin off the reel.
It's a wonder that I didn't loose the rod.
I get the rod out and fight a fish to the boat and it's a 30 inch, 11 pound Striper.
We couldn't believe it. We measured it, weighed it and took it's pic then released it.
That was it for the day and we were off the water by noon.
Thanks Rich for such a wonderful day. šŸ¤ šŸ‘

So you could only keep the big ones? Iā€™m no striper expert nor fish biologist, would think those are the spawned.

Yeah Tim, and lots of people kept the huge ones. 30, 40, 50 pounders, were a common sights in coolers then, while the smaller ones were protected. That's probably why we're in the position we're in now, with only a 3" slot length. And you wonder why no one has any faith in the fisheries management people.

That's why I would rather them go for a smaller slot length, like 16 to 26 or something like that. Even an 18 to 28 or 18 to 26.

Same with game management too. Here where I am seems like everything F&G does is designed to get more money out of us, under the guise of managing the numbers of whatever species. Heck we sportsmen are the ones that fund everything anyway. Ok Iā€™ll stop whining now.lol

I must say that I would rather catch the smaller stripers , four to five pounders. They are a blast to fight on light tackle and they taste much better than the larger fish. Just one or two for the table., and always release the larger fish to spawn and repopulate the fisheries. I have no desire to keep the bigger fish! Like we do, enjoy the fight and release them un harmed! On another note , I just came back from walking my dog on Ocean beach. There were over a hundred fishermen there. They were all throwing crab snares into the surf for Dungeness crabs. Walked by one fishermenā€™s bucket he had at least five undersized crabs in his bucket. Where are the game wardens!

Just called the tip line. Put on hold for twenty minutes. Officer asked me if I can identify the individual and asked me if I was still there. Told him that I was not. I asked if he could respond and investigate. I was told that he can not respond due to limited resources! What the hell! Why do I pay the highest fishing license fees in the nation! He asked what the person was wearing. I responded, chest waters like the other hundreds were wearing. He told me needed more info. REALLY! I told him he was Asian. He told me good luck with that discrimination with that response!

Sorry to hear that Rich. Sounds like a stereotypical government employee, too lazy to do their job but doesn't miss a payday. Disgraceful.
