I have Fished all my life, never for toothy creatures. I would say based on some saltwater fishing a heavier mono leader or a wire based leader? There is product called Tiger Wire that you can tie knots with instead of crimping. I would bet someone will have another better idea though?

I always use leaders but my line snaps often because I like to catch pike

They are big and they like to thrash I just need a line that can be heavily scraped against and not snap easy under pressure

They make great line. I use their T line mono often as well as their trout mono, can't beat it, especially for the price.

I'm mainly a musky/pike guy, and I have a bunch of different set ups for them, based mainly on lure weight and rod/reel combos

My main pike set up is a Daiwa Tatula 200HS with 50lb Suffix 832 a strapped to a St. Croix Premier 7' MH, attached to an 80lb flouro leader.

My Musky set ups are from 65lb braid - 100lb braid, with a 120-150 lb leaders. All on 300/400 size baitcasters and H/XH rods of various brands.

This does not mean YOU NEED super heavy braided line. I've caught big pike on 6-8lb mono, it just requires better drag control and a little luck.

The determining factor is what you plan on throwing at them, and what kind of cover you're targeting them in. Heavy lures require heavy line, as does heavy cover like big weeds or downed trees etc.

You should also be considerate of the gear you have. If you're only using a 2500 size spinning reel and a M/MH rod that can only handle 12-20lb test, don't go above that. You can still catch big fish, you just need to be more considerate of what you intend on using to catch them.

Let me know what you're using and I can give some advice. My main lines I use are Power Pro and Suffix 832 braided lines.

Oh, also, water clarity can have an effect too, though pike don't care as much as other fish. Clear water use moss green, or white line, strained water use vermillion red, or green line.

I usually use a basic ugly stik because I’m a relatively new fisherman but I always use at minimum 6lb spider wire just because it is what I had available when I got the rod
