This is the other way we ice fish in Wisconsin. We cut a large hole in the ice and slide the ice shanty over it.
We sit out in the shanty, which is heated, sometime for days waiting for a sturgeon to come through. We then spear a fish that can go over 200 Lbs if we are lucky. There are usually 1000 - 1500 of these speared every year during the season. The pic is of my nephew and his wife. This one was well over 100 lbs.

WOW

I will not fish on ice thinner than 4 inches, and I carry safety equipment such as hand spikes and a long rope, and I don’t fish alone.

How long has it got to be cold (freezing), for it to get that thick? By the way, thanks for the info. Now I know why I live in the south.

I've been sharing my icefishing adventures on my YouTube channel for over 10 years. I like adding underwater footage with use of underwater cameras or just looking down the hole from a blacked out shanty. Here is a link to my ice fishing playlist

None of my gear is sponsored so I'm not trying to sell you anything. Check out some videos if you want to see how I do it. Thanks

When the temperature drops into the single digits (Fahrenheit) the small wind protected areas ice up quickly. Like as fast as 1/2" over a 24 hour period but it has lots of variables so you need to check fresh ice with a spud bar.

Here are the ice fishing huts (shanties) that I use.

First is a light duty Pack-Shack that I use when packing light on early ice.

Second is my Clam flip-over that I pull behind the ATC (studded tires) for early to mid-season.

Third is my 6'X12' Pop-up for light duty group fishing. Used when needed for light travel.

Fourth is my brother in-law Roy's permanent shanty that we leave out on the ice for longer periods of time. It slides off the tilt trailer straight onto the ice.

Thanks NFN.

Nice to see different setups from anglers instead of a sales pitch/store.

And in magazines or on the net with no personal explanations.

Thank you Sir.

Welcome to the Forum, Serawwop, I'm sorry, I can't answer that question.
