Sorry, OZ, I'm in the cold and I don't ice fish. I have tried it and it was was fun but it was something that I thought I could live without. I have a fishing buddy that will not go South for the Winter because he would miss out of the ice fishing. Whatever!
Thanks just curious what some of them come up with, especially after comments I made in another thread about what I would try.

Some of the catch’s ice fishing
OZ my grandad was an ice fisherman. He's the guy that's responsible for setting me on this wayward path that I been on since I was about 3 or 4. I begged him to take me icefishing, but he was a no nonsense kind of guy and told me no, all I would do is whine and cry to go home and he was going to icefish, not baby sit. But I kept asking, and finally when I's about 10 he agreed to take me. My ma bundled me up in about all the clothes that I had, pair of rubber galoshes, wool scarf and off we went. My grandad wore his every day gray work pants and his matching gray jacket. We got to the lake and walked out on the ice, he chopped a couple holes in it with his spud and baited me up. No shack. Nothing to sit on. No fire. Just stand on the ice and freeze your ass off in the middle of winter in northern Indiana. Thought I was gonna die. But I certainly didn't want him to think I's gonna ruin his fishing trip, so not a peep outa me. We got home and I thawed out and the next Sunday when he asked if I wanted to go with him I said no thanks for asking. I've never been since. Nor will I.
I beg to disagree. Looks cold and miserable. Don't worry, I won't take your spot.

This is the other way we ice fish in Wisconsin. We cut a large hole in the ice and slide the ice shanty over it.
We sit out in the shanty, which is heated, sometime for days waiting for a sturgeon to come through. We then spear a fish that can go over 200 Lbs if we are lucky. There are usually 1000 - 1500 of these speared every year during the season. The pic is of my nephew and his wife. This one was well over 100 lbs.

The way I did most of my ice fishing was to drive the pickup truck out on the ice, drill holes in the ice covering a 200-300 square foot area and set out tip-ups. You than sit in the truck and wait for a flag to go up. Then run to that tip-up and hopefully haul in a walleye, white bass or northern. It is a fun time especially if it is a sunny day with the temps in the 30’s. Sandwiches and beer a necessity.
I have been ice fishing since I was little, it is my favorite way to fish. It is essential to dress properly. Having a shed or a pop- up structure is a good thing especially when it is windy. Find videos on the topic, pay attention, be safe and have fun.

Always wondered about ice fishing. How thick is the ice? Has to be thick for you to be able to drive a pickup truck on it. The Ice I used to chop through in West Texas to water the cows was only a couple of inches thick.

The ice on the lakes in Wi can get over 3 feet thick. Plenty thick enough to run a large truck on.
