I purchased a 12ft Big Fish back in August. I haven't used it yet waiting till next season, but I would like to hear of good ways to haul such a long kayak. I just purchased a used jetski trailer which it's a bit too long to properly fit on the trailer.

Yeah I've got a 12.5 foot kayak and it just barely fits in my Tacoma with the tailgate down. Any longer would probably be too long though.

What kinda car do you drive? There are rollers that mount to the roof that make it possible to put one end up and slide the kayak up and over the car without scratching the car. It's much easier to load that way than to try and negotiate a big awkward kayak up onto the roof all at once.

I'm assuming you have a trailer hitch since you mentioned the jet ski trailer. Get you a bed extender that mounts to the hitch and put a flag on the end of the yak per your local laws. Theyre usually meant for ladders or long pieces of lumber but you can use them for a boat. One can be had from harbor freight for like 60 bucks, possibly in your local classifieds for cheaper.

I have a 5 foots bed but a 12ft kayak how do you handle with the weight evenly dispersed on the tailgate? On my way home the tailgate was already bending the kayak

What are you calling to long? Flag it and tie it down and / or add some weight to the front.

I am 71, have a 12' journey set up for fishing. I have the J racks on the roof of a Honda CR-V. I put a towel across the two J racks to prevent scuffing the paint. I put a couple of handles on the kayak and I just "roll" it up on my thighs and lift up to shoulders then flip it into the J racks and strap it down. Just reverse to unload.

I bought a C-TUG to transport my 13 foot kayak on the ground. You can find it at www.C-tug.com
