Hang in there Denny, You are a good son and deserve better from your father, but it is, what it is, and you have to deal with it. Are there any other close relatives around? Friends? Can you sell something? You have my prayers, the best of luck to you.

Thank you flyguy, your kind words are uplifting.. I'm going to see if I can extend things. I'm in really good standing with my bank, no issues until this and I've been with them since 2016, and I also have my paychecks direct deposited into this account, so I have that going for me at least. I have a loan thru them, and I've had a different auto loan with them that is paid off now, so I'm hoping for some grace in this matter. If all else fails, selling something may be necessary, or pawn idk, depends on the outcome of discussing it with them. I'm waiting for lunch to be over and.. like you said, "it is what it is..".

I believe that whatever happens in "life", whatever storm I'm riding out, the situation is as it should be..
what I mean is, i think theres a purpose behind everything and everybody, theyre either a Blessing or a lesson. Lately I've been looking for the blessings IN the lessons.. mindset is everything lol.

Thank you for your prayers.. EasternOZ and yourself are most definitely blessings in this lesson. Thanks you guys.

"..I didnt know if I could ask for prayer on here..didnt wanna offend anyone."

Unbelievers of a conservative bent will simply ignore religious content; but watch out for the liberals! They are the perpetually offended among us.

God loves them too, even if they refuse to acknowledge Him. May He help you to correct the results of your well-meaning mistake.

DL, I am with Eastern look into a payment plan. Put it behind you with the Dad and move on. My wife and I are guardians for our Autistic son and Social Security over paid him for 6 years to the tune of & 20K with out our knowledge and they demanded the return of the money. We asked about a payment plan and they agreed.
If the Gov can do it, a bank should work with you as well.

JR Our Lord made use of Fisherman in his day, so if anyone gets offended let them take it up to a higher authority. That is provided they make it through the gates.

Thanks again guys.

So, I went to the bank and talked with the manager lady.. I explained what had happened, apologized, and asked for grace. She said "This is a non issue, you are 100% on all your payments and you get direct deposit, so we know it will be taken care of. This letter is auto-generated, so pay it no mind. I will put this visit down in your account notes so no scary letters will come. Thanks for coming in and being honest.."

..yup, prayers. She was so understanding and helpful, she even made sure I would have no more $30 bounce fees, except for the fed return bounce fee. Pray and things happen.

I will say this though, NO MORE CHECKS.. he can pay me through western union. Lesson LOUD and CLEAR. Lol. Thank you guys for your supportive comments and prayers. Fishermen really are the salt of the earth.

Plum, JR, Eastern and fly... I salute ya. Thanks again.

Oh my.. I understand THAT rodeo bud. I left the military with a rating (I was severely injured) but it was not enough at 20%... 200-someeyed dollars a month doesn't even feed anyone. So I applied for SSI. 5yrs later I was granted SSDI and got back pay. They got the amount wrong by a few thousand dollars, which wouldn't have been a problem at the time because of the backpay.. however, they didnt catch on until YEARS later and came for it. It took a few years, but I got them paid back. The government is full of fun little rackets, they call them "audits" lol... I'm sorry that happened to you. I didnt have a family at the time, and it was still hard on me, so I can only imagine..

DL one thing to watch with getting that SSDI is that if you are working watch how much you are able to earn with out being penalized to the point that they will either cut you off or reduce your monthly amount. Experience talking here. And when the son did not tell us and we heard through the SS, OUCH!!! Then to top it off the Mrs and the SS representative on our face to face meetings, were lets say, never going to be friends.
Sorry to read that its from a service related injury and it sounds like another Vet is getting screwed. From one vet to another Thanks for what you volunteered to do and if I or we on the forum can help with info, we have your back brother.

I would go directly to the bank, and talked to the manager, explain the circumstances and ask for a little more time. And never "Loan" to him again..

Friends and family tuff ones to loan anything too! Coworkers got me, loan no more, say we are living on credit card. No spare cash at hand period! Most of us live paycheck to paycheck with out large reserves in banks and any less is a hardship? Never enough for vacations much less for loans with out returns! Tax returns payback, yea right, hear it all the time on Judge shows?

I dont want this to come across as critical. Im assuming that you and your dad have a slightly strained relationship. $500(turned $600) is a lot of money when you dont have it. But to go after him physically is pretty rough. Putting it into perspective: if you divide that up over a year it comes out to $1.64 a day. Not really worth tossing your dad around for that. And who would be taking care of your family when you are in jail. Yes it is a lesson learned and hopefully you guys will still be able to talk it out. Sounds like he is in a tough situation too. May be start a fund for him that you set aside ($10 buck a week) for the next time he's in a bind.

If you can get a loan for about $1000 and clean up your bank business and then payoff you loan in monthly and if possible earlier. I have had the same happen to me from one of my sisters due to her sorry ass husband. Don't lend money or borrow money from family or friends. I either save up and buy or just do without. My fiancé is in bankruptcy and I love her but I don't lend her money and I do not have her on any of my bank business or credit cards which I pay off monthly. There are 0% credit cards but just get it in your name and use it wisely. My first wife sunk me money wise.

“My first wife sunk me...”

My first (and only, 46 years) wife is the bookkeeper and stays abreast of financial moves that have kept us solvent if not prosperous. God has been better to me than I deserve!

Congratulations on your years sober. That's a lot harder than going to the bank. The payment plan sounds like a good idea. It's something you can offer them.
