In Hawaii we call them Moi it is a thread fin it is good eating and we have a season on them it just opened in September.

They must be in the same family but the whiting don’t have the long barbels like this guy has. I never cared much for eating whiting. They are a bit too soft for me. Used to catch them in South Tx.

Tail is vertical. Are there fish with horizontal tails like a porpoise? I guess maybe flounder and halibut have horizontal tails. About all I know of.

it is a thread fin very common in Hawaii also called Moi in Hawaiian.
