When I first started fishing šŸŽ£ that spot, signs said donā€™t eat any fish šŸ  because they were loaded with mercury. If you eat seafood, read the health advisories first. I know someone who got mercury poisoning from seafood.

Golden shiner

Thanks. Is that the same little minnows we used for crappie as kids in Minnesota back in the 50's? We called them shiners. Many came from traps made of mason jars and coned up waxed paper with a rubber band holding the paper on the jar. We used bread for bait. A few came from dad's opening his wallet.

Yes, in Florida golden shiners are used to catch big bass.

I just feel like the American culture of the schools, govā€™t, media, churches, stores is trying to convince me not to eat my catch anymore. In fact, it would prefer I donā€™t catch unless I jump through hoops, and reduce my catch. Then I can eat some definitively toxic farmed fish, and bug meal.

And this site is so pleasant I wonā€™t walk down that road any further.

I have always eaten my catch, figure they were a lot better than any farm raise fish

Yes. Iā€™m sure there are waters that have poisonous fish, but how often are they worse than gas station food, most of whatā€™s in a grocery, or even many of the ā€œhealth food ā€œ products? Fish, game, wild gathered vegetables, and home grown veggies. Itā€™s a lot of work for sure. But it seems like a good life.

Thanks for posting this. I fish that lake occasionally but only from the bank. Just got back from Mercer lake, one sunfish.on corn . Water is still cool.
