Ok so for almost every weekend for about the last 5 weeks I've been hunting giant bowfin in Lake Wilson here in NC. I've yet to land a giant, caught one that may have been about three pounds. I'm using whole live bream on the bottom. Hook up every time, sometimes 2-3 a day. First hook up I got him to the bank and my line snapped sending two split shots flying into my face busting the side of my nose and lip. The second one that day I saw him roll one time a he broke me off. Fast foward til today I finally got one on land and never got my hands on him because he snapped my 15 lb spiderwire and flopped back into the water before I could get to em. He must have been about 6-7 lbs. I immediately go get my steel liter and next cast hooked up again with and even bigger one felt like and wouldn't you know it he completely straightened out my hook. WHAT IM I DOING WRONG??? PLEASE HELP!!!

I Use 4/0-5/0 ewg hook and 40lb braided line! I also use plastic creature baits or jigs. Give a really strong hook set and you should be good! You can use these hooks with live bait too go through mouth up through nose plate bowfin aren’t hook shy! Hope this helps!!

Beef up gear for tuff bowfin! Thin line needs to go and strong hooks needed too! Not finesse fishing with micro thin lines and thin wire hooks with barbs removed?

You can find the hook sizes on the package in the upper corners. You will see sizes 1/0-8/0

Oh no problem there I nailed a monster trout today that probable eluded me a few times. So that flounder is just baiting me. Little pun there.
