My grandson has asked me to teach him how to tie a few knots. (I started with my 12 year old but 4 y.o. quickly joined in). I thought I would share the instructions here along the way.
I'll try to get at least one new one out every week. If you have one that you are particularly interested in shoot me a PM.
As a mariner, former rock climber and member of the International Guild of Knot Tyers, I know quite a few. Some are crappy -- some are quite good. I won't post a knot that I wouldn't trust with my life.
This one is the Anchored Uniknot and is the only knot that I when tying to an eye. It is essentially a combination of the basic Uniknot and the Anchor Bend (link is below). It is also very similar to the Fish-N-Fool Knot which is the strongest (to date) knot that has been tested in braided line. See:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaoTS5x1FcYThe advantages of this knot include:
- requires fewer twists for the Uniknot
- can be trimmed short
- won't slip when used with mono and fluorocarbon

Thread through the eye twice
Tie a Uniknot -- 3 twists for 50# -- 5 for 10# or less
Snug up the Uniknot but leave slack in the loops (if you stopped here you'd have a Fish-N-Fool Knot)
Thread the tag end through both loops
Slide the Uniknot down while pulling the tag end
Trim off the excess tag
Thanks PapaD. Like learning the different knots.
Always used the Palomar but not now. Going to th FnF knot.
Easy to tie and so strong.
Thanks again

While the FnF knot is great for braid it didn't fair as well in mono or fluorocarbon because it slips.
The main difference between the Anchored Uniknot and FnF is that the tag is pulled through the two loops in the final step it doesn't add much complexity or time to tie (probably offset by the lower twist count in the Uni).
Since it performs well in all line types, I don't have to remember (or teach my grandkids) which knot to tie in each type.

Very nice. I'm going to give this one a try.
Thanks
What about the palimer knot

See the results from the test video with 50# PowerPro braid (in initial post, above)...
The Anchored Uniknot should test out at least as well as the FnF.
I also think that the Polomar is a clumsy knot to tie especially with shrimp flies and long multi hook lures.
