Hey any fly fishers , anyone of you all got a two piece fly rod and are they easy to cast?, I've got one coming in and I can't wait to try it. If any of you got one let me know. Peace be with you all.

I got two piece three piece and four piece rods and they all cast a little different.
Some are fast action and some are slow action and some are moderate action.
Some are glass some are bamboo and some are graphite.Nome are hard to cast once you learn the basics of fly casting.
I learned at the age of thirteen on bamboo and am now 79, so you do the math.A good stroke produces a good cast,

I use a lot of roll casting so I 'm looking forward to try that type with it . How is using a bamboo ?, when I started flyfishing it was impossible to get a bamboo. I started in 1988, and now I'm 65 and I'm still learning. You take care.Peace be with you.

Bamboo is expensive these days.A lot of work to make one.
They are heavy compared to other rods. They are nice to look at and are traditional when it comes to fly fishing.
They cast well with s good slow stroke.

I have always preferred a two piece Rod. I started with a three piece 9' bamboo but that was long ago. I have found over the years that the more pieces, the stiffer the rod. There are advantages as the stiffer ones allow me longer casts but for sensitivity you can't beat a two piece.

Number of pieces have nothing to do with how stiff a rod will be or how sensitive the rod will be.
It comes down to preference, do you want a multi piece rod or just a two piece rod.The rod builder determines the number of pieces then goes from there when he designs the mandrel and materials for which to build the rod.Spiget furrels are also much lighter and retain more sensitivity than metal furrels.I hope all this makes sense to you. After working for G.Loomis for five years and touring their rod building facility every year at sales meetings, I do believe I know more about rods than the average guy on this site and how to build them.

By the way the bamboo rods I learned on was 64 years ago so maybe I was just too young when I finally got a fiberglass I never picked up one of the old ones again. I do however wish I still had one of them, I understand they can be quite valuable.

Graywulff, there a few of them around, but there are getting to be fewer of them because people just tossed them. An old guy gave me one about ten years ago, I reconditioned it and it hangs on my wall in the party room now. If I were looking for one I would go on e-bay. I think you would be able to find one.

Welcome to the Forum, 54.

They are still being made. You can go to Oyster Rods. Com and go to a class and build your own rod.
Check them out, very expensive but very nice.

Since I can't fly fish anymore I guess I'll just have to relegate it to fond memories but thank you. These days I am pretty much resigned to n word fishing. I am, however, STILL FISHING!

I grew up on the Yellowstone river. Started with a fly rod at age 4. I even had a fish on Dan Bailey's wall of fame. I do miss it but fishing is in my blood. It never goes away.

Two piece or 4 piece fly rod casting is basically same!
The difference lies in taper and line class associated with rod !
If you can cast a fly rod you will have no difficulty with either rod !

Thanks for all the information, I've been away from fly fishing for 50 years and am now going to try again. I will be starting out with looking for inexpensive used rod/reel.
