Theres a small local lake I fish at often and in my last visit I discovered 3 very large grass carp swimming near the top of the water around the auto fish feeder and near a small area with bluegull nests and where I catch the larger catfish. I tried bait like worms and small hunks of blue gill. They won't bite on those and I was told theres a couple more but I don't know where they usually hide. What baits work really good for large carp? No ones caught these guys yet that I'm aware of and I would love some help being the first.

Let some chicken liver sit out in the sun for a day and get niceeee and ripe. Chunk it up into small bait sized chunks and give it a whirl.

Another one to try, as they appear to be used to human feeders, would be a ball of bread maybe....?

Good luck, keep us posted on the results and what worked!

The ball of bread sounds interesting, might need to try that one first. I can get pretty close the floating feeder from the dock so I'll try it there.

I buy stale bagels and then cut them into chunks the size of a steely marble. cast them out and let em float with a size 4 circle hook really let them gulp it down. if they are cruising cast about 50 yards in front on the path you think they will follow. hold on tight they fight hard.

Give wonder bread a try that stuff will ball up real nice. It’ll grab onto a treble hook pretty well

In the past I have caught carp on whole kernel canned corn. Dump half of the can out in a bag or separate container of some kind, and throw the remaining corn out in the water. Kinda like chumming I guess... then tie in a small hook with some kind of weight. Thread a few kernels of corn on the hook, cast it out where you chummed. It takes some time to get bit, but once they do, be ready. A buddy and I caught 8 or 10 between the two of us on day.

Corn kernels and bread balls are like live shiners for bass and crickets for redbreast.

I just wanted to reiterate what everyone else said: corn or bread balls. If you want to get fancy look up hair rigs and pack bait.

Rye crisp crackers for carp. Wet a cracker and make a doughball for bait. Willamette river carp loved them when I was a kid.

Find out what they are feeding in the auto feeders. If it is floating pellets, see if you can get some of them. You can actually drill a small hole in them 1/32 - 1/16 depending on the pellet size and put a small hook in them so they still float. When the feeders go off get ready.

Grass Carp are not ordinary carp. All of the stuff the guys are telling
you are probably O.K. for regular Carp but Grass carp are different.
I was just watching a program about catching Carp by a couple of guys
from England. It's pretty complicated. Even the rig is different than anything
I have seen. Go to the public library and see if you can get a book on
European Carp fishing. Lots to learn.
