Is there any one of my fellow anglers that can tell me what bait to use at Prado Regional Park Lake when fishing for catfish? I spent many hours there today and absolutely struck out! Bait used: Shrimp; Night Crawlers; Chicken Liver; and even Bluegill. All of these baits were ineffective, completely unsuccessful. Is there anyone who can share information before my next trip back to Prado? Please advise!!!

Dang brother sounds like you threw most of the baits at them already. Some use pieces of hot dog, store bought stink bait or blood bait, grasshoppers, small frogs, crawdads, anchovies, squid, pieces of chicken.
Good luck. Keep us posted on what you use and if it works.
Thank you saw1 for the info. Some of the bait you mentioned I didn’t think of. Thanks again!

Let us know what happens. Good luck, and post pics.
Canned whole kernel corn 🌽 works great for me in NJ.

All of my friends who have had success at Prado for catfish use mackerel sometimes dipped in catfish attractants.
I never thought of using whole kernel corn for catfish, but it sounds interesting enough to try. Thanks!
Mackerel will definitely be one of my baits on my next trip to Prado…Thanks!

The only thing that I could add to this list is hamburger.
It sounds like the problem might not be bait. If I don't get bites when cat fishing within 45 minutes using different baits, I move. The problem is often just being on the wrong spot. I would also try different times of the day. Fish at night if you can. I used to fish a spot on the Sacramento with zero success, but as soon as the sun dropped over the horizon, the bite was on well past midnight. It went from zero to culling within an hour. This was a regular, not a one time thing. Good luck.
Note: after experimenting, I used cut herring at that location. In most paces I had better luck with shrimp or chicken liver.
The one thing I almost always use on baits is wd40. I put some in an empty bait jar, dip the bait in for a few seconds, doesn't harm worms
Works great
Best catfish bait I have used is clams that you leave in the sun untl they are ripe and tough so they don't come off the hook. My fiends used cut up chicken breast with the skin on and soaked in garlic and tuna fish oil.
Thanks bapabear for your response. And yes, moving/changing spots is always an option. Yet at that particular spot I’ve had tremendous success in the past…go figure. If I can find some herring, I may try that as bait. Thanks again!
Wd40, now that’s different! I will try that. Thanks john1941.
