A new breaker could be bad G. Have you guys added something to that circuit. Is it in the kitchen. Appliances that have heating coils draw a lot. When we have party's at our clubhouse we have to use to different circuits for roasters and crackpots. Just a thought πŸ€”

Yes. The breaker covers the kitchen, dining room and outlets in a bedroom. If the new breaker is bad, we won't have to pay.

What is plugged in to the circuit when this happens? If nothing is plugged in is this a GFI circuit?

If it continues which it sounds like it will and you are not afraid of trying, turn the main off and switch the black wire with another breaker of the same amperage. If problem goes to other breaker then problem may be in a outlet or wiring if nothing is plugged in.

Nothing is plugged in. We had a storm that knocked out power for the area but the breaker tripped a couple days before. We also put in an expensive surge protector . I won't try and do any electrical work.

Good decision not to try any electrical work Greg if you are the least bit skeptical. A lot of folks are like that in plumbing concerns too.

Is this a whole house surge protector you are talking about or individual ones in the kitchen?

Turn off the GFI outlets in the kitchen by pushing the bottom on them and a little light should go off. You may have a fried pc card when the power was turned back on in one of them. Leave them off and see if breaker pops.

G I'd talk to some of your friends down there. I'm sure they or probably know someone who could take a look at it. Sounds like alot for one breaker πŸ€”

Agree Whitey, generally not to much other than 1 or 2 additional outlets on a kitchen circuit. But age of house has a lot to do with it too. Code changes and amperage drawls somewhat different pending the age of the house.

The surge protector is for the whole house. My wife tried to turn the breaker on and it sparked. But then it worked later until the new breaker was put in. The outlets worked and were tested by the electrician. Not sure where the problem is but we have some tree limbs close to the electrical wire. I think the utility company will trim them at no charge.

The house was built in 1932 but the breakers appear to be in good shape per the electrician.

Gregg here in NC they will not come on your property and if the limbs are near the power lines they trim them whey they want to. I have some pine trees they I did not plant that just grew up and the limbs are on the power lines. They were sparking. I called the guy came late that evening and said they will get to it. That was a year ago. Hope things work out for you. Maybe if it was nature your insurance company will replace/ repair what you need.

Testing is one thing and physically checking the connection is another. If the installer pushed the wire into the tension holder on the outlet it could be there. Also if it is the type the wire wraps around the screw the screw could be loose. Hopefully you don't have Aluminum wiring, different problem in its own there.

It could be the new breaker or it also could be a wire to close to the breaker when he installed it. There are a lot of things to check as you can see from what Whitey and I mention. If you are in doubt before you go to bed tonight turn off the faulty breaker.

Becky walked around with her(yes, her) and was comfortable with what she checked. It wouldn't have mattered which one of us watched her. We have the same knowledge of electricity and circuit breakers - none.

Well like I say checking and testing two different things. Wires do come loose from the heat expansion and arching does happen which can flip a breaker. The worse is rodent nibbling within the walls and that there is no check for.

If it happen after the new install, most likely it is the new breaker. If it was happening before the new install something going on somewhere.

We do have mice but generally not until the fall when they are looking for some warmth I guess. Who knows? Get out the debit card. That's all I know.
