Fried Smallmouth Filets

Wow...so surprised to filet a 2 1/2lb Smallmouth yesterday as he took the hook very deep and I brought him home. I'm not a huge fish lover but if you told me my dinner tonight was a fried flounder meal from Howard Johnsons, I would have believed it! Nice white filets (not a bone) dipped in a little half and half plus a seasoned flour fried in oil....Yum. Those Smallies better watch out, I may not releasing them so often in the future!

They are definitely wonderful on the plate after a bath in the deep fryer! The milk dip prelude is always a good idea too before shaking them up in a batter. Glad you enjoyed that dinner as a reward for your efforts and not letting a good fish risk harm after being released with an injury.

Yes sir Mickey I remember dining at Ho Jo's in Daytona Beach over spring break in the early seventies it was great, along with their clams. Also used to stop when I worked in Erie Pennsylvania at the Ho Jo's there too.

Yeah buddy!! Smallies are really tasty! More so than LMBs, which taste slightly more "gamey" in my opinion.
