The hospital closest to the ocean in Monmouth County, NJ is Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. In the emergency room there are several hundred fishing lures that have been removed from patients. Majority are trebles!

Fred, what type gripper (brand) do you have? Got hooked trying to take bass off a crankbait last month on lake Hartwell. Not very bad but enough to consider buying one. I've lost a lot of grip in my hands and fingers over the years. Thanks.

I use a 6" Rapala fish gripper Seesalt. They also make a 9" one. I put one on my scale as well.

I have the same one on the scale. I use a 9” for toothy critters. Also for toothy critters I use a jaw spreader. Much better that way than any other method I’ve tried.

Good point Jer, sometimes those beasties don't want to give your lure back.

How do you like your rapala gripper, thinking of getting one and also what brand of scale do you have

I'm happy with the Rapalas. I did have a 5yr old one break last year on my scale. A 10#+Pike started thrashing around while I was weighing her, and one jaw broke at the pivot pin. I paid $9.95 for it so I got my money's worth. I immediately bought 2 more. And they also float. My scale is a cheap Tsunami (Walmart). I'm thinking about buying a Rapala scale also.

I had something similar with a Coho Salmon up in. Michigan. It went in the corner of my thumb and came out the middle. It took a powerful man and a good deal of effort to remove it, while I chomped down on a wooden stick.
