I was just curious Frank. When you mentioned the good sisters and so much of the New Mexico culture that you are familiar with. I didn’t realize that the culture extended that far East cuz of the next door influence.

We moved to Clovis when I. The Spanish that we spoke was Castilian. The other Spanish speaking kids here would make fun of it. I didn’t realize that was the Spanish we spoke until I took Spanish in school. I had to go to Albuquerque for training with the usps and I was told that I came from little Texas.

Castilian Spanish is a beautiful language. It is almost lyrical.

Like all jobs an application followed by an interview takes place, but now days we get to speak up.

With Flyguy ( Leo ) last interview with the school administration it went like this:

Quoting Leo "Let me see if I've got this right."

You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct their disruptive behavior,
observe them for signs of abuse, monitor their dress habits,
censor their T-shirt messages, and instill in them a love for learning.

You want me to check their backpacks for weapons,
wage war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases,
and raise their sense of self-esteem and personal pride.

You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play,
and how to register to vote, balance a checkbook, and apply for a job.
You want me to check their heads for lice, recognize signs of antisocial behavior,
and make sure that they all pass the final exams.

You also want me to provide them with an equal education regardless of their handicaps or race
and communicate regularly with their parents in English, Zulu, or any other language,
by letter, telephone, newsletter, and report card.

You want me to do all this with a piece of chalk, a blackboard, a bulletin board, a few books,
a big smile, and a starting salary that qualifies me for food stamps.

You want me to do all this, and then you tell me...

I CAN'T PRAY?

If parents did their job better many of the extraneous duties that fall to our teachers would not be necessary. Just my opinion.

A few of my relatives are and were public school teachers and 90% of my Aunts and Uncles were Ministers so the desire to help others "lift themselves up" is strong.
Today my french horn students give their recital. All four started from scratch with me so I am very happy to announce the brand new ones can play their solos confidently and the ones that have been with me for 2-5 years are playing pieces I played to get into college. And they are all very nice kids!! Teaching can be quite rewarding.

I taught school and coached football and baseball from 1958 to 1999. I taught physical science, earth science and alittle physical education in the early years. As you can tell by the dates a teacher and coach was respected so i have no complaints at all---except the pay. To this day i would rather be called coach than Mr present.

I coached a little girls softball team. Kids were 9 to 13. I have had a lot of them meeting me now and I don’t recognize them. They are young ladies now and they all seem to be doing good.

My wife and I just ran into one of our first graders today. She was all smiles and seemed shocked that we were at the grocery store too.
