A salute to Flyguy and our registered Teachers here on the stage.

Like all jobs an application followed by an interview takes place, but now days we get to speak up.

With Flyguy ( Leo ) last interview with the school administration it went like this:

Quoting Leo "Let me see if I've got this right."

You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct their disruptive behavior,
observe them for signs of abuse, monitor their dress habits,
censor their T-shirt messages, and instill in them a love for learning.

You want me to check their backpacks for weapons,
wage war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases,
and raise their sense of self-esteem and personal pride.

You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play,
and how to register to vote, balance a checkbook, and apply for a job.
You want me to check their heads for lice, recognize signs of antisocial behavior,
and make sure that they all pass the final exams.

You also want me to provide them with an equal education regardless of their handicaps or race
and communicate regularly with their parents in English, Zulu, or any other language,
by letter, telephone, newsletter, and report card.

You want me to do all this with a piece of chalk, a blackboard, a bulletin board, a few books,
a big smile, and a starting salary that qualifies me for food stamps.

You want me to do all this, and then you tell me...

I CAN'T PRAY?

Excellent narrative plumb, I taught high school biology for nearly 40years and loved it up until the last 5 or so. Even during those last 5 I still enjoyed what I did in the classroom but the other “duties” were beginning to take their toll. Retired just before Covid, woke culture and other assorted B.S., no wonder the number of college education majors are in serious decline. Always endured the comments about having off three months in the summer and being overpaid, well guess what, those three months off were spent working construction. I’ve ranted enough.

An extended Salute to you too Brad. Thanks for doing a job that parents think they could do better.

Now there's the point Bob. I spent 35 years of my life trying to get kids to learn. I was the only one in the science area who had enough credits to be certified in both physical and biological sciences, yet all of the 9 superintendents and all 14 building principles felt they knew my job better than i did. Like Brad said, I enjoyed my job in spite of the bs, at least until the last 10 years or so.

Well, I enjoyed my job while I was coaching for the first 20 years. After that, it was just a job that really didn't pay you enough to live on. So, after retiring from coaching, I immediately started selling cars, in order to supplement my teaching salary, and that went well, primarily because of my coaching reputation. Soon, I started making more money selling cars than I was teaching. It was a no-brainer after 27 years of teaching, to get out of teaching, and just sell cars, so I did that for 25 years. I would have to say that I enjoyed selling cars more than teaching, but it was quite stressful. Not more so than competing in major tournaments either as a competitor or as a coach. After selling cars, I worked part-time for the MN. DNR for 10 years. My life has been good, I wish I could say that for Marion.

I am not a teacher but a teacher associate which is fancy for I help the teacher. My wife has been the school nurse for 26 years. Her job has changed to the negative so much over the years. Too much state paperwork and kids and their parents who think it all revolves around them. I am with the teachers and students and started a year and half ago. I couldn't believe the crap from kids they have to put up with and from their parents who defend there bad behavior. Now 90% of the kids are great but that 10% hijack the class and take all the teachers attention. If it wasn't for summers off there wouldn't be teachers or associates. Some work summer school for the extra money. My wife is there now.

My Wife works in a local School District office…there are 49 different “officially recognized languages” in their schools.
How do you staff for that?
I had some great teachers when I was in school, some really good role models, but life was so much simpler then. I have learned to have great respect for those I had as well as those who teach today.

" 49 " !!!!!! Wow, I agree how do they staff for that?

English class alone must be a challenge for the teacher.

In my classroom there is only one language, English. Had a bunch of kids that had immigrated. One girl from VietNam translated the biology text in the margins into Vietnamese. Another girl came in from Russia, couldn't speak a word of English. In a month she was speaking it very well, and had the highest biology average grade in the class. If you put the responsibility on them, and they actually do it, they can do amazing things. When they don't do it and get away with it they go nowhere.

Sad part is when either a teacher or a parent tells a kid they have a disability and they just give up.

Than they Play the system and settle for just enough to get bye.

With the curriculum that is being forced on students these days, our daughter has taken on the responsibilities of educating their (6) kids, and is doing a marvelous job. Also with NO restrictions on teaching the Bible, prayer, or respect for God and others - not to mention common sense behavior in general, along with “life skills”. I salute all the parents who have the intestinal fortitude to take on the challenges of homeschooling, as well as the public and private teachers!
You go, Kelli!!! 👍

That is definitely taking motherhood to the extreme Randy.

Please pass on a salute to Kelli for both her jobs from me.
