Thirty years ago this Sunday (2/26), John DiGiovanni, Robert Kirkpatrick, Stephen A. Knapp, William Macko, Wilfredo Mercado, and Monica Rodriguez Smith and her unborn child were killed in the first terrorist attack at the World Trade Center. Their names are forever memorialized in bronze on the Memorial's north pool to commemorate their lives and to ensure their legacy and the ongoing ramifications of the 1993 terrorist attack will not recede from our collective memory.
In commemoration of this anniversary, we will gather on the 9/11 Memorial plaza with the victims' families, the survivors, and those who responded to observe a moment of silence at 12:18 p.m., marking the exact time of the attack, after which family members will read aloud the names of those who were so senselessly killed. All in attendance will then pay their respects by placing roses on the Memorial panel inscribed with the names of the victims.
Decades later, the ramifications of the 1993 terrorist attack continue to reverberate, and it is essential that we share stories of the victims, stand in solidarity with the survivors, and express our continued gratitude to those who responded.

Here are 4 pics from the day after the rented van containing a fertilizer bomb exploded in the North Tower basement parking garage. A much younger Mickey on 2.27.93 assigned to take "soot samples" in the parking garage of #1 WTC - worked 12-hour shifts for 3 weeks from the "original ground zero" basement levels all the way up to floor #108, "Windows on the World" Restaurant, no respirators, only a hard hat & a flashlight - it was an eerie feeling and a sign of things to come in 2001.

Thanks for the reminder Mickey. That earlier attack tends to be overlooked due to the 9/11 attack. Both were horrendous

Thank you for the reminder Mickey. We need that more than ever these days with history being rewritten rather than taught.

A truly sad day for America, and more so because we didn't heed the warning of things to come. Thank you Mickey for your service, and the reminder. R.I.P. to all who perished.
