I'd like to give a shout out to my uncle Jim. He had such patience teaching this dopey little kid how to fish.
Uncle Jim will be 90 this coming July. Although he can no longer fish his mind is still sharp and we can talk about our memories and things he taught me. Now it's my turn to teach my grandchildren
If you have a special someone that taught you how to fish, or quit possibly your self taught, give them a shout out here.

My older brother John taught me everything that I know about fishing. He made many outstanding rigs and lures. I won the pool on NJ fluke fishing 🎣 party boats 26 times in the summer of 1969 by using his special rigs and bait. We changed and revolutionized party boat fluking. He also made many thousands of shad flutter spoons. I’m trying to sell them at 2 for a dollar for him. He is now in a nursing home. So sad.

My dad. I lost a lot of fish learning to fish spinning gear. I remember being in our row boat having a BIG LM which struck a surface lure I had on. Not once but twice right beside the boat. Fishing a crazy-crawler mouse type lure. Gray skin with a rawhide tail. It had two metal parts that were on it’s side that made it wobble.

Hey CB. My Dad loved the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish. So I probably got my love for the outdoors from him. However, he died when I was 11 so I had to continue my endeavors by myself. Mom never remarried.
For the most part I've been self taught fishin. I did have an uncle, one of Moms brothers, that use to take me with him dove huntin when I first started huntin though. I was 12. He picked out my first shotgun. A used Browning A5 12 GA auto. I still have it too.

I guess I was really lucky. I knew nothing about saltwater fishing. Walter Ungermann took me under his wing and taught me how to fish rips, open ocean, backwater, surf fishing. occasionally we would also go trout fishing. I also learned how to pilot and navigate a 38' boat without electronics. unfortunately, he has passed, but in the 30 plus years that we fished around the world we won tournaments or at least finished in the top 3. You may want to google him as he was a quintessential fisherman.

A Golf Pro took me walleye fishing and taught me to fish with spinning gear and a night crawler injected with an air bubble in 1974, but I would have to say the most influential mentor was my buddy John in HS. He taught me how to fish his lake for big crappies, yellow perch and walleyes. He passed away about 7 years ago…

Went to Central NJ craigslist under fishing lures. Did not see the pic shown above. Should I look at a different category?

My Dad was my mentor and my best friend and partner in all things outdoors. The memories that I have of our hunting and fishing trips bring me much comfort and joy.
