Ludicrous metaphorical labels have lately become the sport of the "I need a label but was a 'C student' with little cognizance (or appreciation of the actual literal meaning) of the language...HELP ME WITH SOMETHING THAT'S EASY TO REMEMBER !" crowd.....with DeSantis as the head cheerleader.
They came up with "WOKE".....which I actually regard as a compliment. Not at all the jab they think they're delivering...hehehe.

If "youth" are so very susceptible to becoming gay or t*********r from "exposure"(as many purport), why did EVERYONE (including me) think that Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari cross-dressing in the sitcom "Bosom Buddies"was hilarious and wasn't at all "harmful", in image or action. Or Jack Lemmon and whoever doing so in a Naval base setting in a movie, years prior. Didn't make me want to wear my sister's clothing...and I had 3 sisters' closets to pick from !
I find it equally hilarious that "banning certain books" seems to be DeSantis' & et.al.'s way of "prevention"...hehehe. What book, what movie, what magazine, what "forbidden" anything, didn't garner MORE attention, MORE desire to "check it out"....by some blowhard declaring it to be "detrimental to our youth" ? A true clarion call to disobedience (did YOU look under your older brother's mattress for his Playboys ?.....I did....and found 'em !), if there ever was one, and certainly not gonna achieve the naively intended goal.
An exercise in futility, imho, but an excellent distraction to the many, many shortcomings we, as a nation, are experiencing presently.

Personally, I am quite s**k of the laziness of those who choose to distort a word repeatedly, until it somehow becomes inference to a totally different definition.
The i***ts of reality TV have stolen the word "catfish" and "catfished". Must we continually have to learn a new definition of a quite common word ? And here I thought Ebonics was a piss poor idea, this practice is worse.
There are actually over a million words in the English Language. According to Google there are 170,000 in use in modern day, most educated use 20k-30k, yet the "We need a label" folks among us continue to "evolve a word"....the absolute height of laziness.

To continue this thread's back and forth is an exercise in futility for me. In my seven decades, I have encountered bull-headedness pretty much all my life, and on this forum, it is rampant to the max.
You say, DC, that I "like to stir the pot"....not in the least. So therefore, I shall do my best to refrain from entering any further conversations that have nothing do with fishing.

Yeah Anybass, all was good with the live and let live approach until the Left decided to demonize the other side and attack as f*****t our core values, and push their way into public educational policy. Once they involved our youth and young adults in mandatory practices that are properly the responsibility of the family, the friction intensified, and as you say here we are. During that period of truce, a lot of harm, IMO, resulted, and now that we are pushing back, there is a lot of resistance. We just didn't see how far things were out of hand, but now, who knows if it can be reversed. Personally, I am not optimistic about the future if these new cultural norms continue to be adopted as acceptable. Nutz thinks it's 🥜z. Just thinkin'.

yes for you it appears to be a game for others it is a meaningful discussion so yes for you the game maybe over and hope you have some fun fishing but for others the discussion will go on and hopefully there will be some benefit in the process. and just for the record I would agree I do not like how the English language is changed to twist the meaning of words for political or ideological purposes. I do not like the trend of banning certain words and dramatically changing the meanings of others. currently this is largely being done by the left and the LBQT... community. to circle back to this posting origin no where is this more apparent than with the use of the word WOKE in current usage
