Saw this when I woke up this morning. Amazing we just gonna let this balloon fly over our airspace. Even more amazing we didn’t spot it coming over the Pacific. Do we really have a missile defense system if we couldn’t detect a slow moving balloon days before it got here? Personally I think we should shoot it down as a matter of principle. Sad living in a country w no borders. On the ground or in the air. God bless USA.

Maybe some Montana Cowboys should take aim & protect their Family, Land & Livestock by taking this 2A opportunity into their own hands.

China has reportedly gotten themselves a spy balloon floating at one point above Billings, Montana. “Once the balloon was detected, the U.S. government acted immediately to protect against the collection of sensitive information,” said Pentagon spokesperson Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder. They acted immediately but did not… shoot down the balloon. Maybe they acted immediately by pulling some tarps over our Montana secrets.
The Pentagon is holding off on shooting it out of the sky, citing “safety risks.” Risks that Chinese militants might miss out on some gorgeous winter weekend drone shots? Is this thing some CCP piñata?

From what I've seen so far on fox news the US has known about this balloon since Wednesday. Also read where this balloon was hovering above a nuclear military base. Kind of makes ya think. I can not believe they haven't shot it down. You know China would of two days ago an not Said a word.

I guess the obvious question for me, why didn’t they shoot it down while it was over the Pacific. Personally I don’t think they saw it until it was over land. Very concerning.

You really think a civilian can hit something at 80,000 ft elevation?

We watched the thing since it left the ground as it flew over Canada. Shoot it down and just go ahead and k**l some Americans? No big deal then pay the families of Americans for k*****g them. Just for principle? Thats why a bunch of website fishing nerds are not in control of the situation.

So some Montana folks should just shoot at something 80,000-100,000 ft in elevation. You and their mentality are about the same. Let it fall and k**l their cousins and then blame the government for it. You assume some goofball could even hit it from the ground is even more entertaining. It's good a bunch of Fishing website nerds don't make decisions about what to shoot at.

wow gone from 60000 to 80000 to 80000-100000. no a civilian couldn't shoot it down unless they have a rocket or something. but the government could and could pretty well figure where it would land and there is a lot of empty space in northern Montana or Alaska. safety on the ground was not most likely the real reason. I'm sure they could have safely brought it down if they wanted to. I'm hoping they had some good strategic reason for not doing so besides incompetence other wise we have just shown ourselves weak to China which won't go well for Taiwan

Of course there is. Speculating that it wasn't shot down because we are weak is definitely not why. Just shooting it down and starting a war is not a good outcome. I am glad you realize some tobacco spittin toothless goofball with a .3006" bolt action can't hit it. At least you understand something 17-20 miles high is out of range for the common man's gun. Alaska is a bit of a gap from Montana. I think we saw it take off with satellites from the ground. Probably took a carbon copy of everything it has documented and possibly jammed its communications or sent f**e information to wherever was monitoring the thing. We wouldn't shoot it down over Canada. If they didn't shoot it down there is another question why not?
