why do fishing people tow there boat with the engine not in gear and there prop is dry spinning ? does this hurt the water pump?

Actually I never heard you were suppose to do that. I turn off the engine in neutral to put it on the trailer and it stays there until launching again. Can't say I ever had a problem with the free spin either.
I don’t think if it’s free spinning that it’s turning the water pump
Don't know. I can't see the prop when I'm driving.

It doesn’t hurt the water pump because it’s not turning the driveshaft. It’s free spinning.

The water pump impeller is on the driveshaft, which only turns when running. I'd think a freewheeling prop would survive better if whacked, by another car, or person in a parking lot, or wherever.

What I heard is it heats up the gear lube if left spinning. I have always left in gear

I leave mine in gear, I have heard a free-spinning prop, is not good for the bearing on the prop shaft. It made sense to me, and it does stand to reason.
Guess I've never really thought about it 🤔 makes sense to me to leave it in gear 🤷♂️

Nice rig Plumb!
With the ever-changing evolution of 'yak fishing, it won't be long before gas engines will be an option (until they're canceled). I bought my 'yak prior to the pedal drive models being introduced and have watched the pedals become more refined and have followed the electric motors from stern-mount prototype to modular components.
Although the "hands-free" fishing alternative greatly appeals to me, I keep reminding myself of all the great cardio exercise I'm getting while paddling and knot to mention the shoulder & arm workouts while lifting & humping my 100 lb (with gear) plastic boat onto the back of my truck.

First one had a pool noodle on the net. Good idea. I filled my net handle with wine corks to get some flotation.

I'm pretty sure it's an anchor for calm water.
Either that or Plumb misses the arm workouts with his pedal system & stops every so often for some 3 lb curls, followed by a few 12 oz curls...
