well tonight rings in a new year and in Washington state it brings in a new $.40 per gal. gas tax. Happy new year. While those driving Electric cars might be smiling what they don't realize as more drivers use less gas the government will soon be looking for a way to replace the lost Gas tax revenue and guess what? Sooner or later it will be replaced with a tax on miles driven by all vehicles including Electric ones so electric car drivers wipe that smile off your face they will be coming after you to

I'm one who looks at history. I found out that I90 here in Illinois as a toll road was established in 1956 as a temporary measure to pay for the construction of the road. Apparently it was terribly expensive because here we are almost 70 years later and it's still a toll road. Also the toll rate goes up every time they think they could use more money, but the funny think is the truck drivers on the cb radio all say the same thing, Illinois has the worst semi approved roads in the country. Makes me wonder where the toll money is going.

Unfortunately they get addicted to the money. You really can believe a lot of politicians.

So how will they track “miles driven” the honor system? Yeah, right. Just like honest tax payers…

Here in California when you get your vehicle smog test the odometer mileage is taken, they will just compare it to your last smog test mileage.

they finally did away with smog tests here. they found the vast majority of cars were new enough they didn't have a problem and the tests were not nessisary. I'm thinking the real reason was they were losing money instead of making money other wise they would keep on testing even if it was pointless

So, how will you be billed? Annually? Where as when we buy gas we pay when we purchase. Some could be hit hard annually. And what about vehicles that are exempt. Oh, btw. EV’s don’t get smog checked. Just say’n… 🐟on

The last time I took the 22 year old truck in they didn’t even test it just looked to see if the smog equipment was there so I paid them to just look at the truck.
They told me that the old test with the engine running wasn’t used anymore.

oh if they ever really catch on ( popular not fire) they will institute yearly battery safety checks so they don't catch on ( fire not popularity) at the same smog testing stations

Yes just like the Politicians did with Social Security.

I don’t mind my Social Security but at least it didn’t get abolished. Look back in History. George JR wanted it to go away. I’m sure it doesn’t matter to his base he calls them. The rich. But the Social Security I receive still exists on the planet I live on.

true for us old guys but we would have been much better off as would the younger generation. if all or even the employees portion would have been allowed ti be placed in the employees private IRA, 401 account instead. at least give everyone the option of what way they want to go. over my 50 year work career I would much rather have been invested in a balanced portfolio than the government then I would have seen a good growth instead of just a bunch of IO U that we have in social security. there are laws against private companies raiding retirement accounts but the government does it all the time making it basically a pyramid scheme that in the next 15 years or so will go bankrupt. but the way I am far from being a rich guy

DC. A safety check would be great like in Germany where vehicles are required to meet minimum safety requirements where they go 100+mph.

Washington got rid of their Air Quality Vehicle Inspection Stations.

Safety Inspections would be a good thing even if all vehicles only go 60mph but no one wants to spend what it costs to pay the common man or lady to do it.

The responsibility should be on the manufacturer that makes huge profits. Assuming any Government has extra cash to start a new Agency would be just that.

Oregon still has an Air Quality Vehicle Inspection Station but they are trained on Air Quality and how to properly screen cars for Emissions as required by Federal Law but not inspect for fire hazards on electric vehicles.

I think your suggestion is good but you know how much everyone h**es paying for an inspection that the Vehicle Manufacturer should provide being as their bank account is huge.

Just my two cents on the topic that is the Business I was in for several decades.

I think you and whoever did it that way would have done OK but you must of forgotten about Enron and the guy ( private dishonest jerk ) that sunk everyone’s 401k accounts.

All the malarkey about Social Security is just that. Anyone remember what Don the Con did with some of it? Space Force. The thing many don’t want to admit that constantly claim SS is broke and going to be gone is that current employees pay into it and it could easily be earning interest.

I’m not worried about SS but it would be nice when Don the Con and Putin and the rest of the evil types put an end to the war with Ukraine. Then the gasoline that has been dropping in cost could continue to.

Whose fault is it that it’s dropped while Joe is in there? Just something that has come to mind lately how could fuel prices drop if Joe is the only detail in why it went up?

I know you h**e president Trump but the SS problems started many presidents before him and both parties raided it and used it as a v**e getting tool opened it up to peo0le that never paid I to it and made it a pay as you go pyramid type thing. the problem that we now have and is getting worse is there are more on SS than are working paying into it. yes Enron was bad but this with a balanced portfolio really did hurt by their corruption as much as we all have been hurt by our government corruption in both parties. and if you don't think it is still happening during this administration every bit asuch or more than the last administration you have political blinders on
