At 12:00 Noon, CST 11/21/2022, I was in the bathroom, had just stood up and was attempting to zip my khakis and tumbled over. I hit my shoulder against the shower door and the rest of me against the floor.

My wife had already gone to lunch in our dining hall, so I waited about 45 minutes to call her on my cell to get some guys to come and help me up. When I called, she said the Administration Staff forbade any such work by other residents. We had to call EMT!

Well, I had crawled out of the bathroom into my den but am a little sore from the fall and weak from P.T. earlier this morning. So, I must lie there until EMT comes to help. Other than being a little sore on my shoulder and rib cage, I am O.K.

I am not used to being so helpless as this. But guess it is the future. Sometimes, I am a little lightheaded, or dizzy, so, I never know what to expect. Getting old is not for sissies! It makes me wonder if I can make it until Wednesday my birthday!

I haven’t been counting but believe I have fallen at least a dozen times over the past year or so. Earlier, I attributed my falling to just not paying attention, but now am sure some of it was because I have very low blood pressure and that brought on dizzy spells. Even though I will always count to 20 when I start to get out of bed during the night, but that isn’t working as well as before. I haven’t thought it necessary to count to 20 after sitting on the toilet. Sometimes, I will receive a scrape, or a cut. Most of the time, I don’t lose any blood and I didn’t this time.
I guess I had better update my obituary. I have one but it is out of date, so I need to whip out a more current one. Well, it seems so unfair. I usually feel as good as if I am 40ish, but my body obviously does not agree at times.

When I depart, I am sure I will not be reincarnated as a jackrabbit in Montana. But I enjoy storytelling so much, if I can, I will try to communicate back to you. It might just happen that when one of you catches a fish, it might try to talk to you, or give you a short-written message from me.

From what I have read in the Holy Bible, only two men were ever allowed to have a view of Heaven. Neither of them knew whether it was an in-body, or out-of-body experience, but they were told they could not tell all they saw! These were Paul and John. Look for yourself. Now. Daniel had a look at the future, but I don’t think it included Heaven. Just Sayin…RJS

RJ might be time to have a walker in the house I found mine to be a great asset when getting around when my blood pressure was too low

Take care, Captain.

Robert, Another Tumble is a little too lite hearted I would say . The bones break easier
as you get older , I would call these tumbles as warning shots . To stop and pay
attention to your next move . Just Saying . I want too read more story’s or life lessons.

Bob, I am so sorry to hear about this latest fall. You have a handful of years on me, but I have experienced a few of them too. I don't have the same balance or equilibrium as I used to. You are a planner I know, so look at your place and install necessary hand holds to use to get your balance when standing up. When my Mom was in her 90's , I installed a floor to ceiling pole next to the bathroom stool to use when standing up. It had hand hold rings and a bar to grab on. I know a lot of places like where you stay have rules about what you can screw into the wall or other places, but maybe they will work with you. For that pole I installed in the bathroom, It didn't screw into anything. It was a compression fit between the floor and ceiling. You could use this sort of thing in other places in your home where you sit/stand. Let me tell you about what happened to me when Salmon fishing from the bank of a local canal (HOOD). I had my waders on and was standing waist deep. Everything was fine, then Fog rolled in where I could not see the land horizon on the other side and all of sudden I lost my reference and had a hard time staying vertical. I managed to get back to the shore. Really lucky, never had that problem before and was lucky I didn't fall with those chest waders on. Anyway, now is the time you start figuring things out to head off these incidences. I have taken a few falls in the last year or so and fortunately I sort of rolled so just banged up my hip, elbow, knee but my head did not SLAP DOWN on the floor/concrete. Really Lucky! Take care my friend, you have a lot of years to give us your History stories!

RJS. take care of yourself and please be carefully. I was hospitalized due to dizziness and falling after many tests they concluded it was mast likely caused by a combination of a sinus and ear infection and dehydration hopefully they will find some easily treatable cause like mine. I know you are a man of faith and read the Bible so you are familiar with Ecclesiastes 12 and that descriptive poem on the aging process everything I reread it I laugh and say amen. we are all going down the same aging path. appreciate you and look forward to meeting you in the hereafter and listening to more of your stories

Bob my primary guy says if no diseases are involved, seniors falling can be be due to dehydration. I do a minimum of 64 ounces of liquids daily. Please check with your primary caregiver.

Yes, that is my goal every day to drink 64 oz minimum each day, so Every morning I start off the day and drink 16 oz before anything else. I am not a big water drinker, so it is a chore for me to have to do that!

RJS take care of yourself. I’ve learned toilets can be very perilous. While enthroned my Uncle Hugie went to meet his maker. They said stroke, who knows if it was exacerbated by his efforts to finish. Watch that commode, never turn your back completely on it!!!!

Yep! I do not trust the white marble Buick! When I now get up, I pull up my pants and then get in front of the sink, because when I fall it is is usually forward, so if the the sink is there I can have something to grab ahold and keep from falling.

However, I am convinced it is an inner ear problem and arranging to have an ENT docter look at it. I have to many of the symptoms to ignore this case. Just Sayin...RJS

RJ I am a month from 80 and had a few falls the past couple years. The last one I cracked a bone in my right hip. Surgeon put 3 screws in orthoscopically and am fine now. Just be safe and lucky for me I have not had any more falls.

Being one with heart issues my self and recovering from two major back surgeries, I have had my share of dizzy spells resulting in falls. The older I get the longer it takes to heal from them. RJS hope you're doing better soon and happy birthday!
