My son Steven got his first bull elk opening morning. My bucket list was to help him get a bull at age 52. He has helped me harvest four bulls and he was due. Hunting NW Colorado. Big bodied bull was a lot more work than when we were younger. We didn't even worry about filling our buck and cow elk tags we were so happy. Plus very tired and sore. Hope the pics come thru. Great hunt!
Congrats on his first bull!
Congratulations! He's now one bull ahead of my lifetime total. However, I've only hunted about five seasons. I had the thrill of seeing my buddy get a couple of nice bulls, and also, the pain of getting them off the mountain. It's definitely a team sport.

Congrats Steve. From what I had heard from people going on elk hunts, I decided that it wasn't on my bucket list. If I'm going to work that hard, I'm going to make money doing it. I'll just buy my beef, it won't cost as much, and it will be much easier to bring home.

Congrats to you and your son. The WORK starts right after the shot is fired. Where were you. What caliber, how many shots, what was the yards how many in your party???........just wondering.
I shot my last bull 15 miles above Vega Res. muzzleloader season, and I had to pack it out myself a 1 1/2 miles from the 4 wheeler. I took a quarter out that afternoon and got the rest the next day;slept really good that night and went home the next day. I haven't even applied for a license since. Fish are a lot lighter to pack....lol
Tired and SORE, still, it felt good to be ALIVE. Sometimes I think of doing it again but,at 78,common sense tells me to "let it go". Friends I used to hunt with either moved away, too fat and out of shape, sick or dead. Maybe just take pictures of them up in those "shining mountains".

With good adventures age and already have done a bunch comes wisdom. I know exactly what you mean and how you feel. I am glad I have done so much when some of my older buddies were younger and some that have died were gung ho every year to hunt fish and camp. Fishing on Boats is definitely easier to accomplish than Elk Hunting. I still do it but not as often.
