Welcome, this is Richie. Use to live and fish in Titusville. FL. I would fish the Indian River for red fish, snook and trout. After I got a bigger boat would go out of Port Canaveral. Would run out 30 miles for sails, Wahoo and what ever. Easier to fish inlets more south. Much shorter run to the stream.
How far out do you go to get to the Gulf stream?
Would love to hook up some day if interested.
Take care
Rich

Hi Ritchie, the stream off Ponce varies between about 41 to 43 miles offshore. However a lot of billfish, wahoo, etc are caught at the 28 fathom curve, about 35 miles out. Trolling here can start as little as 6 to 7 miles out around all the artifical reefs the county has created. And I've actually caught kings just a mile off the inlet at the sea bouy real early in the morning on an outgoing tide.

Go to the top of the page and hit Private Message, it's self explanatory after that.

I'm brand new to this forum so treat me gently. LOL!!! Seriously I'm from Daytona Beach, Fl and have been primarily fishing the north central coast of Florida since I was a kid and offshore mostly out of Ponce Inlet. A lot has changed since I started fishing with my dad in the '40s mostly that the fishing has become more difficult due to fishing pressure, even offshore. I have 3 boats, a 10' dinghy for shallow creeks, a 23' Slickcraft cuddy cabin OB for inlet and near shore and a 48' Ocean SS sportfisherman for offshore trips which I recently purchased and brought down from Cape May, NJ. And although an "old timer" I'm always open to new ways and spots to fish. So I'll be checking in periodically and looking forward to being a contributing member of the forum.
