Whenever I'm going hunting or fishing in a new area to me the first thing I do is look at Google Earth, she is your friend.

👍👍 Google Earth Pro has a cool feature where you can see the lake back in history and at a point where it was drawn down, will reveal the structure and cover normally hidden when the lake is at capacity. Can't do this on a phone however, will only work on a laptop or desktop.
I've watched videos where they use a drone to take the bait out to the deeper break or drop off. If its too far to cast from the beach the drone will fly your bait out as far as you want and drop it using a switch on the controller. The one I watched took the large bait out to catch a shark the guy hit a home button and the drone flew back to where it was launched from. They are expensive but someone is making them for that application.
I was looking at the video in today's "More nature 56", and it looks like your success would depend on the conditions. First - obviously - would be whether the water is clear. Some other obstacles might be reflections from the surface that would be hard to see through, ripples, or water made white by the surf.
HOWEVER, some shots in that video showed the idea of using a drone to survey to be a winner!
