Kind of like finding used boats. When you see a deal can't take time to think about it.

So sorry Danger, that completely sucks!

Does the mechanic suggest, cylinder head issue or cracked block? It would seem there would be a overheating problem or grayish exhaust smoke. A thorough examination with a bore scope should give some answers as to where the water is entering and the extent of the damage. Don’t trust just one mechanics opinion, there is something missing in diagnosis.

Mine goes to the shop Tuesday, I was out fishing about a mile from the ramp and it wouldn’t start, no spark.

I second that. Something sounds fishy. A water leak shouldn’t have destroyed a motor. Was there water in every cylinder or just one? I would definitely get a second opinion… 🐟on

Just got a call from mechanic….the motor is shot….cant be fixed….water got into it ….he pulled the plugs and water came out….i cant frigging believe this! New motor installed is 21 K….which i dont have…. Two boats, two lemons….😡🤬🤬

I am so sorry for you, D. I can only imagine how your feeling. I don’t know what you can afford. But not all is lost. Like Fred has mentioned. You don’t have to replace the whole engine. Perhaps just the power head. But that will still require a mechanic. But it won’t be 21k. Wish I lived closer. I’d help you out. But take a few days. Get pass the shock and do some research and figure out your options. This is a real pisser, for sure… 🐟on

I asked him the same question just a few minutes ago…he said something in the cooling system that sucks saltwater into the motor and then pisses it out….must have been deteriorating for a while and finally broke…flooding the cylinders with saltwater……to say im dejected and pissed off would be an understatement.🤯😢

We are talking outboard here, aren’t we? Yamaha! With that you have a rubber impeller that sucks the water into the cooling system and then pisses it out. I can understand that impeller failing. Which caused your engine to overheat, which caused warpage allowing water into the cylinders. That would be my guess…

He says something in the cooling system wore out, over a period of years probably, then broke and completely drenched the inside of the motor with saltwater. He pulled the plugs and saltwater poured out he said.

Ive been told by damn near everyone that yamaha 200 4 strokes are great motors…..🤨🧐🤬

Yeah, if you recall dave, i , with the help of you guys, installed a new impeller on the other boat that screwed me….somewhere up where the water goes between the impeller and the piss valve apparently broke and caused the flooding inside.

Danger, the water passes through the cooling passages around the cylinders, then exits through the exhaust, and the little pisser. When you put a head gasket and cylinder head on it seals the passages so the water stays out of the cylinders. When you blow a head gasket the water gets into the cylinders and the motor won't run. That's THE most common cause for water in the cylinders. Please get a second opinion on your diagnosis. I'd hate to see you get taken for a ride.....

Impeller pumps the sea water or lake water. If there was kelp or seaweed present it can plug the inlet where the water is drawn into the cooling system...therefore causing major damages just as if impeller failed. some impellers have woodruff key or keyway that can be dislodged and stop it from pumping. Thermostats will also destroy a motor if they get stuck shut. Salt water causes a bunch of problems with metallic devices due to corrosion. If impeller broke or sucked sand into it can ruin it. Bummer Danger. Maybe you have a warranty on the Outboard. Hopefully your lunch money doesn't all have to go into the boat. All the advice I have seen for you is 100% accurate on Fishingstage.
