Vinegar for weed killing @20% acidity or greater works great. No need for salt or soap. Myself, I use 30% buy at Home Depot. Do not spray pollinator friendly plants such as milkweed it will kill it.

Hey Fly Please consider leaving the milkweed alone and even creating a patch just for Monarchs. Monarchs were just put on the Endandered Species Red List. Would we all be sad if Monarch Butterflies went extinct.

As a small landowner who struggles with Goldenrod, Buuckthorn and Reed Canary Grass I get the need to kill invasive things but Monarch Butterflies aren't one of them. I've created a quarter acre of short grass praire just for butterflies/pollinators!

Please create a butterfly/pollinator garden, and oh yeah the deer bed down in it, so . . . Venison!

DCGravity was talking in a post the other day about the decline of the monarch Butterfly. It has declined 85% in the past years. He indicated that it was possibly due to the use of weed spray on the milkweed plant. Not only does it kill the plant but possibly the butterfly when it lites on it to lay the eggs. I did some research on the internet and it said that if you mix 1 gallon of white vinegar with a cup of table salt and a tablespoon full of dish soap, it would kill all weeds and grasses. I'm going to try it, have any of you ever tried it?

Yep use it on my gravel road and around my rock wall about every week or two if getting lot of rain, if dry weather one a month it cheaper than weed spray
Plus it safer to use ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Have used "horticultural vinegar" successfully on most weeds here in California, but it is not sold here. I have ordered it online from a nursery in TX. Interesting we can't get it here, because it is considered a better environmental option than roundup or other chemicals.

Horticultural vinegar is more concentrated than the stuff for human consumption. I believe I used the 20% concentration, undiluted, and with nothing else added. Just put it in a handheld sprayer & apply. Be sure to wash out the sprayer well after, and wear gloves & eye protection.

As for impact on monarchs and any other insects,, it will burn them too. We have a milkweed patch for the monarchs & just pull the weeds from that area by hand.

I have Monarch butterflyโ€™s by the dozen here. I didnโ€™t know there was issue. I have been wanting to try the Vinegar solution myself.

I was understanding that critters that happened to touch / chewed on /land on wet / damp weed killers died.

Always wash your sprayer out with plain water after using any thing but water in them it makes for good practice and prolongs the life of the sprayer ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐ŸŽฃ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘
