Recently, within the past week or so I have posted stories of famous, or infamous people. These are people that are famous and that I either admired or loathed. I write stories that may focus on an individual because I admire what they have done, and the lessons taught, and in other cases, where there is a definite warning to beware!

Now, I solicit your candid opinion. I can either continue and add to these stories or stop. Without hearing fromYou I might continue to move in a direction that nobody cares to read. What do you like, or prefer? So far, since I have been on Fishing Stages I have posted more than 900 stories. I am not a chameleon, but can Flip-flop with ease. I don’t wish to be like many of our politicians who are always running to ge sure to get in the lead of any parade, I would like some indication of your preferences. Just Sayin…RJS

Keep them coming. I'm kind of a history guy(my brother was a college history professor for 30 years), so I think he influenced me in that direction. I would lean towards the historical figures in your posts but I read your personal stuff also. Being a bit of a writer myself, I like to see the words others put together to tell a story.

Hi, RJ.
Frankly, I've enjoyed your stories about your own experiences and of Texas history more than the posts about famous (or infamous) people. You've led a very interesting life!

I agree with Barnacles, strong on Texas history.

ghaynes1: I have to warn you my spoken language had to go a complete overhaul when I got to college. I don't believe there was a single person in my community who had gone to college when I was growing up. My only exposure were my school teachers, pharmacist, and medical doctor in town.

When working in N.Y, there was a strike by the union. So, they asked office staff, me included to go work on one of the assembly lines to keep the pharmaceutical products flowing. Once when the line was down, a group of us were standing around and someone suggest that we guess by the person's accent were they were from.

I was near the last and the furtherest away anyone could guess my accent was West Virgina! Just Sayin...RJS

RJ, I had some good friends from Connecticut and to them anyone from Virginia was Southern. We’re from Texas and I’ve traveled enough around to know we have a unique accent. We understand each other very well. The hardest ones for me to understand were the Cajuns in South Louisiana 😎👍

Well, there's regional accents and then there's the ability to write things down with some clarity and interest. You seem to be doing ok to me.

R J, your stories do more than you know so please keep em coming. Over the last weeks you have inspired my wife & I to reminisce about growing up bathing in a tin tub, cooking with coal oil, lighting with kerosene, grandparents and so on. We also realized many of these things are unknown to our adult kids, and resolved to pass on to them such stories and funny things our families had happen. As I type new stories are coming to mind that need to be shared. We plan to use your stories of your child hood as a starting place then leading into our own true stories.
"JUST SAYING" From your friend you didn't know you had, NOTL.

I went to bank on July 5th. Teller asked what I did on the 4th? Told I watched season 1 and 2 of Perry Mason. She wanted to know who he was.

Well, fisherman/sailor: I treasure your opinion more than you know. I believe you were the very first to buy my book. Did you ever read it? (no answer required.)

Even though I have posted a ton of stuff and often think the well is dry, I can still, in the right moment, create a list of topics! This is my wife's fault. I didn't think I could write and she said, "But you tell stories all the time, just write them down and I'll edit them. Just Sayin...RJS

Listen to your wife.

Notl: You are an inspiration. You are doing the right thing by recording your family stories. Look into Lulu publishing because they will print as few as one copy! And at resaonable prices.
What got me started was I only had one grandparent I ever got to know and I felt cheated! I wrote my stories for my children and grandchildren so the would not feel the same. Just Sayin...RJS

Ditto RJS. You remind me of my Grandfather. He was born in 1903 and was a true pioneer on the west coast. He was an itinerant Assembly of God minister who moved around the Pacific Northwest, working in the mines and logging the woods of Washington and Idaho while planting churches. When the church was established and functioning properly he would move to another town and do it again. He quit logging when he was in his 70’s when a tree kicked back and broke his hip. So he started driving truck cross country with his nephew. He lived well into his 90’s. I like to think that I take after his side of the family. I have his ears so I hope to have his lifespan 🙏
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Keep the stories coming. It’s good to have you back. A lot of people here missed you and were very concerned about you while you were gone.
