That is a fact. One time on the ship I got in trouble because of a misunderstanding of the schedule for the day. Well, I addressed the head cook by heatedly calling the whole galley crew as “your f……n cooks”. The whole mess deck got quiet. Later on, one of the crew said “You must have really been mad. We’ve never heard you curse before.”
I had never realized before what impact we may have. It was eye opening.

Kerry, You took the words right out of my mouth😊. I grew up in Puyallup. Perhaps we can meet up next time I’m put that way.

My brother was a 20 year Coastie also. He retired as an ETC, then did another 20 with the State Department.

Well, thank you all for your service. That always kinda gives me a chuckle. I don't know about you, but I remember, all too well, when we weren't welcomed back at all. Still got a bit of a sore spot.

Happened to a lot guys, including my brother. Shouldn't have happened. The anger about that war was totally misdirected. I guess "the better late than never" thank you applies here. The sore spot is understandable.

Thanks for the acknowledgment. We joined post combat era and also had the advantage of the Coast Guard always being the good guys. Although we weren’t particularly appreciated because we were the enforcement arm of National Marine Fisheries Service during the salmon wars in the PNW in the 70’s. Buy the fishermen were still glad to see us when they got into trouble.
Thank you for your service also. I can’t imagine what the grunts went through.

Just imagine turning on your TV and all the bad guys on all the programs are crazed Desert Storm vets. That's how we were treated.

And I remember how the Viet Nam vets were treated. I remember the picketers outside the ship yard main gates and what their signs said. Used to really pizz me off, I HATED IT!

After the way San Francisco treated military people during the Vietnam era, it puzzles me that the Navy treats that city to Fleet Week.

Maybe it has something to do with who is running the city?

I'm not a Veteran either, and I'll second that opinion Hos, you all are my heros as well! Thank you all for protecting my freedom.
