Wind was dead calm in Prospect when I left, 4 towns away it was blowing 8-12 when I got to the lake. WTF, over!!! It gradually increased from there. 12-18 when I left at 1:30.
The early bite was non existent, 2 bites on a Dinger and broke off both in deep trees. Pulled out the Ultralight and lost 3 consecutive jigs in the Calico tree. Decided to head back out on the gusty main lake an try some shallower cover. Changed to Wacky Generals, and caught a pounder, (skunk's off). Ok I can work with this, hit the next tree and got slammed by a 2 pounder. He had a black upper jaw, and a couple jet black spots on him. Never saw that before, almost looked like paint. Found one more shady tree on the northeast side of the lake and got another little one pounder. By then it was blowing 15, sideways across the ramp so I called it a day. No fun wrangling the boat back onto the trailer.

Sounds like you were 3 guys short for putting the boat on the trailer. Memories of our last day with Slim.

Although the catches made it worth the trouble i bet. Good pics Thanks.

Still a productive outing and no skunk. 👍 And yes, your two pounder has a mustache. 🤣 Maybe he’ll have a beard next time.

Well Fred, you avoided the skunk several times over in adverse conditions. Good job buddy, think I’ll be soon headed to the local ponds for some gills. They’re all catch and release but about a week ago I met and spoke quite lengthy with a kid I had in school, (not really a kid anymore, he’s probably 45) that works for the fish commission. He told me to keep some gills but not to tell anyone he said so. They’re showing signs of stunting and he suggested that I should take some out. I’m all in! Anyway, I’m going to do just that this afternoon.

Thanks Bob. Yeah it's even more fun with no dock. Just shove it out into the wind, and when (if) it clears the guides, yank it in as fast and hard as you can. Then back and forth a few times to get it straight on the bunks. It's a good workout.
The fish definitely helped,, for sure. You're welcome.

Thanks Four. Yeah I should have turned around so the sun hit him better. There's a small spot on this side, but a big oval spot on his back. Very unusual, to me anyway.

Nice catch Fred. Noticed you used a weedless wacky. I have heard people say they do better without the weedless. I know the technique but seldom use it. Ever fish without the weedless ?

Thanks Brad. The first one, even if it's small, takes the pressure off. Then it's more battling the conditions, wether it's wind, or Jetskiers, or both (today) , and try to put a pattern together. All the deep fish, near the dam, wanted to stay deep in their trees. An expensive lesson learned, as I didn't bring any heavy rods.
Good luck with the Gills, and Mum's the Word..

Thanks Garey. It was ok, considering. I was pretty pi$$ed when I got there and it was already starting to blow. It's only about 30 minutes from my house, which was calm. It's still better than working though.

Thanks Bobber. Yeah I use both depending on conditions.. I call this place the "Salad Bowl" for a reason. When I brought the 2 pounder to the boat, he weighed 5 lbs. After removing the vegetation, he was 2-1. The grass and coontail are thick there. Even the weedless bring some back on every cast but not as much. I use Trokars, and the weedguard is only plastic, so it doesn't affect the hookset. I don't like metal ones.

Yeah be careful down there in a light boat. Any of the stick worms will work well being Wacky Rigged.
