Been there, done that! I have dropped them over the side, had them break off and keep sailing into the distance during the cast, but the most “painful “ loss of a lure happened when I drifted into a beautiful stretch of trout water in a Jon boat, was reaching for my rod with a Mepps spinner tied on and as I was securing the oars, I hit a rock which caused the oar to fall onto my rod…causing the lure to break off and swing into the air and with a gentle splash, sink gently to the bottom. I must have been 13 or 14 and only brought ONE lure 🤦🏼‍♂️
That may have been the start of my obsession to bring more stuff than I could possibly lose without capsizing…
1 for fishing
1 for the tree
1 for the lily pads
1 for the submerged log, rock, etc

I tend to be aggressive in spots I shouldn’t be, whether golfing or fishing.

It got better (mentally) once I adopted the mindset that I didn’t “own” that lure or golf ball…I was merely renting it. 😂

Better luck next time!

Rent does keep going up though don't it it's amazing what they charge for lures now a days I'm surprise that more criminals aren't out robbing people for their fishing gear but I did have ALL my gear stolen by some junkie son of a friend 🇺🇸🎣👎😂

I know the feeling friend. I’ve lost 3 of the same lure in the same lake this year. It’s my go to crank bait. Darn darn darn!

Wait till you fish with a drunk in a small flat bottom. Lost 90% of my gear when he capsized the boat. Treble hook in one arm. Yeah it was not a good day 👍🤬😂

Was that his first and only trip with ya?

Invest in a lure retriever. Multiple styles out there, most just slide down the line. There not expensive and I have recovered easy over a 100 plus lures in my days. They work approx 90 % of the time in recovering your snagged lure.

Ya know TM, we’ve all had days like that. I always carry a spark plug in my tackle box. If I get hung up like that I put the spark plug on my line and raise the rod tip so it slides down and unhooks my lure. It works about 95% of the time and if it doesn’t you’ll lose hook, line, and spark plug.
