I don't know what causes it but every now and then I get a film on one of my kisses stores in tackle boxes. Particularly arbugast baits such as jitterbugs and sputterfuss. Some times Heddon baits like zara spooks and dying flutters. I use an electric toothbrush and crest toothpaste to remove it. I also use tooth paste to clear the yellow film off my truck head lights. Works well.

Hello Seegundo. I'm constantly buying old lures & tackle boxes. I've seen that white scum film on most every shape, size & brand of lures. I have no scientific answer but being put away wet probably contributes to the condition. I have a very good supply of Pepsodent toothpaste & use it with an electric toothbrush. Pepsodent is 2000 grit & cleans well. I use the crest on the teeth I have left. I've thought about trying lime away but haven't bought any yet. All old lures don't have that film. Strange.
