How's this, Spirit?
It dosn't appear to be Obama that blocked it.
The speaker of House, John A. Boehner, Republican of Ohio, and Senator Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat and majority leader, who together rule the Rotunda, have denied the request without specific explanation.

https://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/09/us/09buckles.html I canβt access that without a subscription to The NY Times. What I did find that it was, in fact, during the Obama administration. Not that it matters any.
God bless everyone associated with producing the freedoms we all gained from WW1. πππΊπΈπΊπΈ
Yes, that's in the Wiki article I mentioned. It wasn't a partisan decision and it had nothing to do with the White House from what I can tell. Look up "lying in state" and it is defined as living in the main office of the state, or in the case of the United States, the Capital Building, not the President's residence.

I think that the decision against Buckles was because our top politicians want to reserve that honor for (mostly) themselves.
Yeah I know, there have been some top military people who laid in state in the rotunda, but mostly it was top politicians. You know, public "servants".
It was truly the " Longest Day "

The old soldiers of WWII are almost gone. I wonder if they will ever get the respect they deserve. I remember when the last WWI vet died and they wouldn't let him lie in the white house. That was just a few years ago in the Obama administration. I wonder the fate of the last WWII and last Korea veterans or the last Vietnam veterans. God bless them all for their service and sacrifice.
Sad how some politicians couldn't care less. Some don't even acknowledge until someone jabs them in the rib and then a last minute note is sent out. Maybe not WOKE enough.
I remember a very long time ago in late 1960's to early 1970's took a road trip and went thru Greeley Colorado and stopped to visit my Ex's Grandmother. I got to meet her Grandmother for the first time and her husband who was a WW 1 vet. He got doses of the Gasses on the battlefield and had problems breathing with a real loud rattling lungs with a lot of phlegm from that terrible weapon.

To all those who gave their all, Rest in peace.
My Uncle went in on Omaha Beach. Never would talk about it. He worked at Union Carbide when he returned. If someone dropped a wrench, heβd go flat out on the floor with his hands over his neck shaking. Canβt begin to imagine what he saw.
God bless America and those veterans who gave their lives for our freedom.
