Wasn’t dad I had to worry about, it was mom and there was no back talk if you wanted to be able to eat supper
Same with my step kids when i came into the picture. The juice had a way of handling it. I only stepped in when the F bomb was dropped.

Thanks to go out to Kerry and for my grandkids, for this reminder sent my way.
What was your repercussion for talking back?
Two words come to my mind
“ You’re grounded “
I can remember getting into my share of trouble and Dad chasing me around the kitchen island with a paddle he fashioned out of a piece of 1/2” plywood. But don’t recall any talking back…

Talking back to my parents or disrespecting my elders was just not an option when I was a kid. I can’t really say what the repercussion was. We just didn’t do that. My kids didn’t do it either. I see now days the kids are in charge and the tables have turned. The kids tell the parents what to do and how to do it and the parents obey. I’d, probably, still be bouncing off my back side had I been disrespectful or talked back to my parents.

The THOUGHT of talkin back to my parents never crossed my mind. Specially my Dad.
My kids didn't talk back to us very much either and the Granddaughter doesn't at all.
I never was grounded like Plumb Bob, but I did take a bite off the old bar of soap a couple of times. A smarter kid would not need that twice.
I didn't try to outrun my folks after just the one time. I outran Mom, and later in the day when I figured that it had all blown over I went back. I got a lickin' for what I'd done and then I got another lickin' for running. Dad taught me to take responsibility and take my punishment when I had it coming. Dad was 200 pounds of spring steel and rawhide, I didn't care to do anything that might enhance my punishment.
I didn't try to talk back, but I found that attempting to have a reasonable discussion to present an opposing point of view amounted to insubordination. Dad had the same perspective on that as a drill sergeant does.
