Now this is way before a lot of your time, but how many of you remember taking your shoes to the shoe shop and have taps put on them? they were a steel plate in the shape of a horse shoe for the heels and one one the side and tip of the shoe. you had to be careful when you walked on smooth floors, really slippery and noisy. This is when you could bring your shotgun to school in your truck and show it to your teacher and wouldn't have been arrested, thrown in jail and kicked out of school. Also had the old fishing rod in the rear window.

What fad do you remember?

I had guns and fishing rods in rear window. It was a great place to store it instead of bouncing around on floor. It definitely wasn’t a thing to Show off guns like many today do. Intimidation tactics. We didn’t carry them inside etc. Smoking Cigarettes. All kinds of bad stuff. I remember when Nike shoes were a new fad. It was way before people wore shirts and shorts etc with it.

I remember dweebs jacking their back end of car way up in the air to show off. I was a motor head and fully understood the idea behind a lot of engineering with cars and machines but I never thought people that did silly things ( just for a look ) had much smarts. I guess it’s maybe why I received awards and sent to Federal Base for few hours a day to work on Govt Equipment. Some kids even failed Auto and Wood shop. I remember some clothing fads that I never took part in but I was always a DJockey at school… with Country and Rock and Roll as my main library of tunes.

Good post Kerry. I gotta hit the hay. Headed south in AM to meet Saw1 etc. and fish…fish…fish.

I remember all this. Bell bottoms and party line phones. We would play outside all day no shoes. I remember when they put street lights in our neighborhood. Playing hide and seek in the corn fields. If you had a hole in your pants you were laugh at. Now anything goes. I also remember my dad plowing the garden with mules. I remember one day my dad had tied the mules up to a post to go inside to the bathroom. Me being silly or crazy decided to throw rocks at them and they got away. OMG what a day after he caught them. He beat me so bad. I think that’s why I don’t care for horses.

Don't think I ever carried my shotgun into school, but I always had my pocket knife with me. Do remember getting sent home once in 8th grade. Had caught a skunk on my trap line one morning and still had a little residual aroma from the encounter. Took another bath and went back to school, clean and fresh.

These days most of the kids are smoking the "skunk." They just made it legal in NJ yesterday. [to my dismay except for medical reasons]
I was definitely a bell bottoms gal and remember the History teacher having me stand on my desk in front of the whole class as an example of and "individual" mindset. I gladly participated.

Ice man came by every other day, Tin tinker once a week, rag man occasionally. Baths only no shower, coal fired furnace, kerosene fired stove. Penny candies (squirrels, Mary Janes, dots and the banana flavored one I can’t remember the name of)

I remember those horse shoe taps👍. Fads of the 60s and 70s. Big bell bottom pants, corduroy jeans and plaid sweaters. Long before Nike even existed we wore Keds and we were cool🥸. Dragging main on a Friday night in brand new 1970 Chevelle SS and $5.00 bought a case of beer and beer nuts for 4 guys. The other $5.00 went in the gas tank and it lasted all weekend.

Ripogenu, the Mary Jane I remember when I was about 5 years old my dad gave my brother and I $5.00 and go y’all some candy. Ok so we go to the store and buy a BOX OF Mary Jane. 01Cent each. We get home and he sees all that candy and was mad we spent all his $5.00 and once again we got the beat down and no candy. He took it back to the store.
