I suggest you check out Animated Knots on the Internet. You will be able to learn the different knots easily. Buy an inexpensive mono line, 15 Lb. to practice with.
PFC.
I will use braid on limb hooks and jugs. All my reels get mono.
I can understand what you are thinking. But the distance means nothing to me. It’s the control you have with braided. I will readily admit that I’m not as proficient as I once was but I could put my bait in a gallon bucket at 25 feet 9 times out of 10. But due to age and other interests it has been 15 years sense picked up a casting rig.
“O” it isn’t a blood knot. I do know that. It ends up smaller than the blood knot.
I fish with braid on my spinning reels. I like braid because you have more line strength at the same diameter as mono. There is no stretch with braid. If you fish small ponds with a lot weed you will lose less gear using braid over mono.
Agreed - braid casts well because of it's smaller diameter and lighter weight. Only issues - because it is "limp" - occasional wind knots and it can cut your skin - avoid grabbing it with your hands
Hey Gw, I tie a trilene xt leader in to my fire line main line ( that also has mono backer on the spool), using uni to uni knots. I believe that the mono leader does a great deal for me as it is very abrasive resistant, it helps to slide spoons and jigs over and around the rocks that I love to fish. It also gives lures a little bit of lift as well as acting as a shock absorber that snaps back a little upon hook sets. I am a true believer in trying leaders in. The small knot also tells you when your lure is getting close to your rod tip in the dark!!!
