My wife and I live near Helen in the beautiful blue ridge mountains. I've been a fisherman all my life but making 19 vacations to Alaska, of course including a fishing trip almost every time, and living there for three years, kinda ruined it for me. I didn't want to post more pix. I bought a jon boat and motor two years ago but I had a sever back problem that left me having to use a walker, and dragging my left leg. I've gotten much better in the last few months, despite also having covid, then 6 months later pneumonia, and flu at the same time. So I think it's time I get that boat in the water and drown some worms. I must be strange because I've never cared for bass. The only fish I'm interested in here is bream, crappie, sunfish, shellcrackers, etc. I'm 70 and fully retired from the DoD.
Welcome to the stage I also have back issues. Hope you can get out and enjoy. Helen is a beautiful town I go every time I visit my sister in Toccoa GA. Lots of great fishing near you.
Hi Viking, sounds like you'll fit right in here. Welcome!

Welcome aboard. Enjoy.
Gotta love Alaska! I took friends up 23 of 27 years before I tore up the shoulders and knees. Sure miss the days on the Kenai, in the Cook Inlet and going out of Homer towards the Barren Islands. I mostly went for the Sockeyes & Ling Cod - the rest were a bonus! My best up there was a 65# King Salmon and a 225 # Halibut. Enjoy your time on the forum and keep posting your new pics.

Hey Viking welcome to the stage, you fit in well with the back problems. Just a few on here have yet to have an ache or two anywhere on the body.
Some awesome catches you post there. Not a bass fisher either, salt is my go to. Give me those stripers any day.

Welcome Aboard the Stage..... Great fish pix. Nice to have ya here, and agree on beauty of Blue Ridge. New Englanders like me are always bragging and promoting our autumn foliage, but yours is every bit as spectacular.
We enjoy pictures thanks for posting

Welcome to the forum Viking.
Welcome Viking,
Not familiar with your area, but
Chatuge and Burton Lakes look promising, for sure. Lots of fingers and bays to fish! Good luck with the back.
Go by the Lake Burton hatchery, ask for Leon. Or go to the Gainesville G&F office and ask for Anthony. Either one can point you in the right direction. My personal pick would be Lake Lanier.
