Have you ever gotten into the puppy drum on the Southside of the pike between Aransas Pass and Port A with the fly rod? I was lucky enough to do that and I would catch one on every cast, and it lasted for about a week or 10 days. I would catch them until I got tired of it.

Never hooked up with a drum but would sure like to....I like it when you can get a hook set on every cast

Welcome Freddy,
Those cat and carp had to be a lot of fun on the fly rod!
I have heard the only way to enjoy carp is to pickle them, but have never tried it myself.
Lots of knowledge and experience here on the Stage, but we’re always willing to learn, too! Enjoy your time here!

Always a lot of fun catching fish on light tackle. Sometimes you wish you would have a 8 or 9wt for the bigger fish....

What pattern were you using for the drum, maybe crab?

I have never caught a drum, don't know to much about drum...I don't think there is any drum fish where I live in Calif. Is it a fresh water fish....

Corvina is a drum, but north of San Diego you're probably not gonna catch one. More likely if you fish Mexico or south of there. Other than that I don't believe we have any drums.

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Freddy and I'm retired. I live part of the year in Lake Shastina Northern Calif. and part in Murrieta Southern Calif. Most of my fishing has been done on the west coast from deep down in Baja Mexico up into Oregon. The other state I've fished is South Carolina at Folly Beach, Sullivan's Inland and Santee Cooper lake.....So I'm planning a trip to Carmel Indiana this summer to visit my daughter a escapee from from Calif. Ha,Ha and the good thing is she has a little lake in her back yard.....And I would appreciate some info. on fishing the Carmel area. Thanks all so much...Some pic. I hooked up this cat using a #12 olive woolly bugger at a neighborhood lake in Temecula Ca. and the carp using a #14 white bug 5x tippet at Lake Hodges Ca.....

Howdy neighbor, and welcome to the stage. We may have to fish together in the future. I fish Skinner, DVL, Perris and a couple of the S.D, lakes.

Howdy to you to OldBassGuy....Yeah sounds great Skinner is one of my favorite local lakes, since i sold my boat and bought a kayak i fish mostly from the shore because kayaks are not permitted at Skinner. Shore fishing can be really good at times. All so fish Harveston Lake in Temecula a lot, only 2 miles from my house....Hope to see you out there sometime.

Hey Baja,
I too live only about 2-3 miles from Harveston Lake, but have never fished it. Launch ramp #2 at Skinner is only for kayaks. I see a lot of kayakers fishing out there all the time. Are you possibly thinking of DVL? Might check that out an start enjoying that kayak even more. I have a Bass Tracker and only fish from that. We will have to hook up some time and I will take you out with me.

I stand corrected sir, that is right they only allow sit in kayaks mind is a sit on top hobie paddle drive. I guess to much body contact with the water.....Yeah anytime you want a fishing friend let me know, I'm retired so ready to fish most days....

Welcome to the Stage Baja, both great looking fish you have there. I can’t help you with Carmel, but I do wish you luck and a good safe trip. Enjoy your visit with your daughter, and send us more pics.
