Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Freddy and I'm retired. I live part of the year in Lake Shastina Northern Calif. and part in Murrieta Southern Calif. Most of my fishing has been done on the west coast from deep down in Baja Mexico up into Oregon. The other state I've fished is South Carolina at Folly Beach, Sullivan's Inland and Santee Cooper lake.....So I'm planning a trip to Carmel Indiana this summer to visit my daughter a escapee from from Calif. Ha,Ha and the good thing is she has a little lake in her back yard.....And I would appreciate some info. on fishing the Carmel area. Thanks all so much...Some pic. I hooked up this cat using a #12 olive woolly bugger at a neighborhood lake in Temecula Ca. and the carp using a #14 white bug 5x tippet at Lake Hodges Ca.....

Good fishing bahacamp,
I see the catfish as a an awesome lunch or dinner. Not so sure about the carp. My Dad always called them Bugles Mouth Bass lol. I have heard of pressure cooking them and it softens up the bones. The last one I caught I was fishing with my cousin on the clear fork of the Brazos and landed one using a fly rod with a big grasshopper for bait. It was a hoot. Keep up the photos. Very good ๐Ÿ‘

Welcome to the Forum, bajacamp. Those are big fish for a 5#, with a 5X tippet. You are good. I have caught a lot of different fish with a fly rod, but never a cat.

Have you ever gotten into the puppy drum on the Southside of the pike between Aransas Pass and Port A with the fly rod? I was lucky enough to do that and I would catch one on every cast, and it lasted for about a week or 10 days. I would catch them until I got tired of it.

Welcome Freddy,
Those cat and carp had to be a lot of fun on the fly rod!
I have heard the only way to enjoy carp is to pickle them, but have never tried it myself.
Lots of knowledge and experience here on the Stage, but weโ€™re always willing to learn, too! Enjoy your time here!

I would be up to that sometime. At this time I donโ€™t own a fly rod. I know some fishermen in our area that pole over shallow water and sight cast for Redfish. I had a fly rod at one time and tried fishing with it but the wind was too strong and I only caught my hat lol. I would love to hook a 25โ€ red on a fly/ popper. It would make a catch of a lifetime for me
