Yea, mine was a one time thing.

Worse problem i had on my 97 diesel was the vacuum pump. Went out 200 miles from home going over a bridge, hit the break to slow down while entering the turn off and took quite awhile to stop.

Billy bob's repair shop had it for a week and did a rebuild because they couldn't find a new one while i rented a car.

45 days later nearly the same spot 3am and no breaks. Rebuild didn't last very long.

Drove it the remaining 200 miles and traded it in. 334,000 on it in 15 years had enough.

For Company and work my son and I have had a dozen or more of the 7.3 and found they didn’t really get to running top notch till 60-80,000. Some were more than that. The 2000 one I kept around took over 100,000 before it started purring along. Have sold most to friends and neighbors that wanted good long lasting trucks. Neighbor still has the ‘98 he got from me and has over 400,000 on it. He says the dang thing just won’t die so he can get a new truck - then he will say he really doesn’t want one with DEF so hopes it runs till he dies. 😂😂

Kerry,my bil has a ford pu,same year, but his is gas. He was having the exact same problem. Go out,hit the key, click. Go out a couple hours later, hit the key, sometimes it would start right up. You couldn’t depend on it and it was getting progressively worse. New battery, cleaned all terminals, tried everything. Finally took it to the dealer. They said it was the ignition switch so they replaced it. Called him up,said truck is done. When he picked it up,he paid the bill, went out, jumped in the truck. Click. Went back in,said it won’t start. Mechanic came out, stuck the key in,fired right up. My bil said, I will take it home, but the first time it don’t start, send a tow truck. Took it home, pulled in the driveway and shut it off. Turned the key. Click. Called them and they came and got it. Long story short,it turned out to be the fuse box. Something on the back of it. They replaced it about 6 months ago and it hasn’t done it since

Hope you make out with your pu Kerry. There is nothing worse than having a vehicle you can’t depend on

I have a f 150 97. my battery was down. turns out that my voltage meter in my truck is hard to read. the alt was only putting out 11 volts. normaly my alt. puts out 16 volts. I put in a new alt.My battery liked that. My gauge in my truck is the sweep type hard to read. This starter in this truck is 25 yrs old. It likes alot of voltage I think thats why it has survived this long.My old alt. lasted ten yrs.lets sea how long this ones lasts. Ricky Sitka

Kerry, your multimeter may not help with checking the batteries. You may need a load tester to be sure.

The auto parts store has it and can check your batteries.that’s how I found my bad battery.

The starter solenoid, on the front right fender will result in a click or no start. It can also be jumped with a screw driver if it gets you stranded…🐟on

Kerry, I have an '05 350 diesel that has 75,000 on it and I believe the ignition switch is going out. Sometimes will not turn over on the 1st or 5th try, eventually it takes off.
