Hooked up with Forrest Ed on Wed 3/16 and headed to South Padre Island for some surf fishing.
Ed caught a bunch of whitings and a keeper sheephead. (no pic) and I landed some whitings and a small 27" hammerhead (released)

Tried out the line trigger and I was impressed with results.
Here's the pros and cons:
* gained approx. 30yds on casts ( a guestimate)
* can throw heavier weights
* no finger cuts or abrasions
CONS
* nothing, other than getting used to loading trigger and throwing with it.
SUGGESTION
* don't use zip ties to fasten trigger to rod. Those sharp ends seem to always find your fingers. Will try taping next
time out
* Do 2 to 3 line wraps on the pin
* you may have to adjust drag setting if you experience slippage when casting.

I'll be posting a link on these beautiful majestic birds. Interesting but sad.

Good update and pics Padre but one suggestion of my own. I am with you on the wire ties they can do some rubbing as well. Problem with tape is i can only think of electrical tape and that will soften in the sun. But if you know of another type i am listening.

But for the suggestion how about Velcro wire ties? Wrap them around the base and smooth to the touch.

PB, I'll be trying different methods including braid wrap, similar to how you replace and wrap a new line guide on your rod.
I don't have Velcro so I'm going to try a wrap with a 40lb braid line I have lying around.

How about a few wraps of athletic tape over the zip ties to conceal the sharp edges?

Velcro wire ties are listed for $ 6.00 on Amazon.

OJ has a good idea with the athletic tape over the plastic wire ties.

Can you show pictures of trigger etc? I had trigger finger and had medical treatment for it. I got it from too much wrenching and working but I think you are referring to a reel addition. I see reels with triggers built in. Shrink Tubing is good for some applications so no adhesive is needed.

Trigger Reel.

Jeremy, I believe the pic you posted is a "bail release", the trigger mounts on the rod. Here's a link to an article i posted on 3/13 with picture of my set-up and a youtube video on how to attach and use.

There is another good thought padre, " shrink tubing." Actually you can purchase it with or without an adhesive inside it that when you shrink it, it adheres to the product not just wrap around it.

I have used it on underground applications.

Padre that may my first thought when I saw the zip ties. Braid wrap with shrink tube over it should work fine

FYI. I have tried braid rap a few times on different applications. Each time, the braid would slip and loosen in short order. I use nylon upholstery thread. It will take a lot of abuse. I coat it with a few coats of clear nail polish to protect the thread. If I were to do it now, I would coat it with the UV activate glue. Good luck.
