He always asks me where I want to fish. We both love fishing, but, I don’t know. Catching fish has always been lagniappe. Just once, I’d like to give him the day he deserves. I’m thinking Sunday, March 20th around the lake Ponchartrain or lake Catherine area. Can you guys offer any advice?

If you want to fish those lakes hire a guide. Seriously, all equipment provided you just show up. Take a camera phone and have fun.

If you seriously wish to catch fish, then head to the west. Check out local bait shops and try your luck.

At the very least have a target species in mind.....Bass, Crappie, Catfish. Every specie requires a different technique.

At the very least, take worms and a bobber. Pack a nice picnic lunch and bring wine.

Good Luck,

BD

Welcome to the stage. Will you be on the north shore or south shore? Either way if you don’t hire a charter, fish the train trestle and the causeway. The only reports I’ve read were that the trout were deep around the base of the pilings.

My advice would be to not waste your French on these guys. Now if you were to use "lanyard" instead of
"lagniappe" maybe they'd know what you're talking about. Fish lasagne? What's she sayin?

I can see from your rhetoric that you are a true southern belle. That is not a word that most of us hear very often. Welcome the Fishing Stage L. Post some photos and please let us know how you do?

Lagniappe. And the last sentence in the post. I doubt many on here are familiar with that word, or the custom. Prove me wrong? The only reason I am familiar is because I'm fairly well read and am familiar with the custom, if not the word for it. I only know the word from reading. Not from how I was raised.

I know what it means. Something extra. Kinda like when I say sac-a-lait, or choupique, or dos-gris or couyon. Some folks don’t know what they mean unless they read the context in which they were said.

Well that makes three of us that knows what she was sayin. I think that term, lagniappe, is pretty common around New Orleans and that area, not so much elsewhere. As I said, I've never heard anyone use the term in a conversation, I've only ever read it. So I would expect Four to know it, Fred was a bit of a surprise.
